Silencers?

so i want to remove the part which artur told me makes the intake silent and saw that there might be another which might be the same thing. if anyone knows if the smaller 2nd one is as well please let me know before i remove something that has to be there. thanks in advance

i was thinking of melting them back up and using silicone as well to cover them up. will this sufice?
 
The first time I did them, I just JB Welded plastic covers I cut to shape over them...which didn't work well and I learned the hard way.

Second time I scuffed up both surfaces since it creates a better bond, cleaned them, JB Welded, and then used a "Cold Heat" thing to sort of tack weld the plastic at certain spots. Just make sure that the piece you use to cover it, is bigger than the hole. The intake creates a ton of suction and you don't want that piece getting sucked into your throttle body. If it's bigger than the hole it's covering at worst it will fall off which in that case your car will shut itself off as a failsafe for sucking in unmetered air. I would carry around duct tape with you just in case, so if that does happen, wrap the hole in it as a temporary fix.

I had an 03...it really didn't make much of a difference at all. The intake "growl" became a tiny tiny bit more higher pitched which you wouldn't even notice unless you were really listening for it. No performance gain.
 
does the 00' have those silencers? havent checked my engine bay in a while and cant right now...
 
I would just skip all of the adhesives, plastic replacement panels and silicon... and go straight for the roll of duct tape! :-D
 
next stop indeed, lol, j/k. after i took it all apart, which took the better part of 3 minutes, i decided a lot of things can go wrong. if this isn't properly sealed i can mess a lot of things up and i don't want the headaches. i'm sure i was on the right track of doing it. it's not rocket science but i had a thought it mind when i started it and that was "if this is too much hassle i'll just get a CAI". so i'ma use my feb discount at LSK and get one. still...i will be installing the OEM back for a sec to see how it goes

are you keeping your factory airbox with this set up? it seems like it would just be easier to but the aluminum intake and tru-rev filter from Ken...
 
I don't think you can use the factory air box with the aluminum intake tube...
 
misunderstanding... when you asked if he was keeping the stock air box...
 
haha yea i meant if he was keeping the black stock intake

but don't worry you will be forgiven.. (after we get the lower McClaren)
 
yeah i've been having the kkm for a while now. i still want to try out the one i modified though, that's what i meant
