I have a 93 mark 8 that needs a new tranny. I have drawn the line and i need a pickup now now any way. Have any of you parted out a car and if so what kind of luck did you have? Or should i just sell for $1000 or best offer.

A lot can depend on the colors combos and milage. But its not like you can part it out and have it all sold within a month, it takes time and a need to be active in the forums or posting/re-posting.

$1000 or BO ? Can't say since I dont know the colors, milage. I've seen them sell for $400-$600 with a damaged trans and high milage (over 150k).

The computer may be worth something, the 93s usually had a more aggressive stock tune and some guys like to put 93 ECUs into their 94 and 95s. The drive-shaft, assuming is the stock 93 one-piece, can fetch up to $100. So you can pick and pull and box and sell or dump the whole thing. In the end, parting it out will make ya more cash, but it will take a lot longer.

Had engine rebuilt 2 years ago (bout 30,000 miles ago) interior except for driver seat is immaculate. OD shows 146,000 i just wish i has the ability to replace the trans. air shock are new and no sad also has aftermarket rims (American racing Estrella five star). I think i might part it unless i get some real interest when i list.

If you enjoy the car, why not just buy a used transmission?
4R70W transmissions aren't hard to come by.

Nearly every Ford V8 from the mid-90s will work easily in the Mark VIII. Granted, installation is a hassle, but it also provides access to some of those parts that are difficult to replace otherwise (IACV, EGR tube, ect.)

Or check the forums for transmissions for sale, you can sometimes find hidden bargains that way.

All is not lost. You can pick up another used tranny for as low as $200. And, my guess is that it'll cost more than $1200 to replace the Mark VIII.

And I say this as a guy with a 200k miles 1993 Mark VIII that also happens to have a new transmission in it now too...

Hey

I will get pics soon. White interior Black interior. There are dents on the drivers side door. How hard would a tranny swap be? Shop wants $400 in labor to install.

Man, I'd keep it. The last mark VIII I saw in SLC (well, not quite) was in Park city. this blonde chick was driving it, and the poor Mark looked bad. All 4 bags looked popped, the car was bouncing all over the place, and she was driving it like she didn't care...

I looked at her, she saw me, I shook my head, and kept on going.

Point of the story... well, there really isn't a point aside from that there aren't many Marks in the SLC area.

It will take a hell of a lot more time than a brake job or airbags, but overall isn't a whole lot harder. My friend recently did the job on his 96 so I got to hear about it..

How are you so sure it needs a new trans. anyway?

I haven't done one on this car specifically, but looking at mine the 13 year old bolts holding the exaust on look to be the most challenging part of the whole job.
