I have an SCT chip with mail order tune, works awesome! But I was wound wondering if I'm leaving on the table.. " Few 10ths H/P QT". Is it worth 500$??

Cause you have a chip
Id say do gears, stall and exhaust before a dyno tune.

I don't believe an exhuast system is worth anything significant maybe 5hp if that? Gears worth a 10th? and a huge drop in mpg plus overheating. 600$ 3800 converter 2 10ths and a drop in mpg. Effy on those mods.

Wrong. Headers and full 2.5" exhaust netted me about 20hp with a chip tune. A 3800 stall will increase low end torque significantly, enough to gain upwards of 5 tenths in the 1/4 mile. And you don't have overheating issues with a stall unless you are absent-minded enough to not run an aftermarket cooler which is essential anyways with a stall. On my old setup with gears, stall, and mail order chip tune and exhaust I ran a 14.1 at the track. Up here at these altitudes my car probably would have ran a 15.0 when it was completely stock. That equates to a lot of tenths. ;)

Judging by your existing 1/4 mile times, exhaust, gears and stall would very likely have you running high 13s.

Well I'm broke! Lol. Kirk, with dr's what kinda 60ft and Et do you think I'll lay down? So far I've net a 2.3 60 and still ran a 14.58 @ 97mph.

Drs are pricey 200 a tire I need a deal lol

Well gears and a converter may not drop you a full second in the 1/4 mile, but on the street it'll be a night and day difference on responsivness and acceleration..a dyno tune isn't going to be anything noticable if you already have a chip though..certainly not that big of a difference at the track or seat of the pants feel. By the sounds of it you use your car as a daily driver if you're worrying about gas milage so if that's the case why be so concerned about a few tenths in the 1/4. According to all the people here with 373s or 410s gas mileage isn't affected all that much and so long as your cooling system is up to snuff you shouldn't have to worry about a few hundred more rpms on the highway causing any overheating problems. Stall converters do create heat due to the slippage but if you put in a nice sized trans cooler that won't be a problem either.

This thing about gears is, I don't want to loose top end or trap speed, I like the 1.2 shift @ 55 60mph.

You won't lose trap speed in the 1/4 if anything you'll gain mph at the top end, you'll just be going through the traps at a higher rpm. Now top speed will be affected but honestly..who cares? How often are you pulling top speed runs anyway? And if so why? So you can say "hey my car can top out at 130" might take all week to get there but it SOUNDS cool to say it. We just had this debate in another thread..I'd rather have a quick car on the street with gears and converter than stock converter and 308s just so it'll top out at 8 mph higher.

you can kill yourself just as easily with 4.10s as you can with 3.08s.. the speed potential is there.
but 4.10s are way more fun.

I have no idea. LOL Honestly, I think you are pretty close to your limits with your current mods. Also, I don't know what your big obsession is with completing first gear at a certain rpm. As you progress with mods, your shift schedule is also going to change. The shift schedule with stock gearing and converter is going to be much different as you change those things. It doesn't matter where YOU want it to shift. That's not how it works.

Bull**** on the top end. I had this dispute just the other day with a particular Canadian on here. My car with 4.30s will hit just about 130 mph in 3rd gear and if I wanted to risk my transmission I could turn overdrive on and top 150 mph if the transmission doesn't pop before then. Not like it really frickin' matters because I have also already displayed my lack of interest in going that speed anyways. I've done it once already and it was nothing more than an egotistical move that risked my life. When an aftermarket tune removes the speed limiter, your car will go really fast even with steep gears. Nuff said....

Some of us have the W3Z2 that is not limited. Now I have not got to my Quarterhorse yet but I do have the CZAJL strategy for my car and it does imply there is no speed limit. It will be fun to do my own tuning but I have a few things to get before the Quarterhorse. It's only $25 to sailorbob to unlock what you need and $100 buys the editor.

I have gone about 160 mph for my fastest run. It was terrifying and right at 150 or so the headliner snapped down with a loud noise. Almost died several ways that day. The Mark at high speed is very tame.

A real pussycat but some alignment changes need to be made to do it on a regular basis. Most of the uncertainty you feel at high speed is the toe in fighting you. There should be essentially none for high speed driving. That makes it a bit squirrely at lower speed but above about 80 mph she will become stable and fun to drive. Well if you like to go fast that is.

To the OP, you dyno tune when you are done with everything else. If you are happy with your setup and don't plan any major changes go for it. It can get expensive doing a few things then dynoing the beast then doing more and wondering if you have the most you can get from her.
