I've got a guy installing my 99 4R70W into my 93 Mark 8.

He says the shifter cable is different

Anyone have any ideas on getting it to fit right with my 93 linkage?

You will want to use the 93 MLPS and the 93 shift cable and brackets... it should work just fine. Make sure he repins the harness properly... the guide on TCCOA is wrong...

I've never repinned one... but I have heard of people who have done it with the TCCOA chart and had stuff get messed up... Tommy burned up some shift solenoids....

I'm getting another flexplate today (for the 12" converters) so we'll see if that bolt pattern fits. *sigh*

Ok flexplate works fine... bought one for a 97 t-bird.

Back to the MLPS....

I bought one for my 93. What changed in the sensors? SO I guess i need to drop another $50 on one for a 99 Grand Marquis (the trans I'm using)?

Also - What linkages will work with this trans??? I know it had a column shift, and the linkage connector is different... and this mechanic doesn't want to touch the internals for liability reasons.

So.... yeah I'm boned if I don't find a linkage that works... I do have a JY locally that I will scour, I just need to know what to look for.

Well I think what I need to do is just go over there and swap the arm myself - since he won't touch it. This solves 2 problems in that I can use the MLPS I got for my 93 as well as my stock linkage...

OK....

I'm pretty pissed. What's was a pretty straightforward swap is turning into a total mess.

He's got it all installed and he says it's in limp home mode. He said the OD light was flashing and had "ghost" codes in the system, but one valid code for the TOT sensor.

I'm picking it up Wednesday, but does anyone know (or could speculate) what the heck could be wrong?

yep I gave him the sheet on page 16 of Jerry's guide - I'm thinking he did it wrong though, but I'm thinking I should just get it home and do it myself!!!

It only has 6 miles to go...

I predicted the future!

Tommy did the same thing, burned up some :q:q:q:q solenoids....

The TCCOA diagram is WRONG..it's been said many many times.

The image is reversed when they scanned the image it made a mirror image of what it was supposed to look like.

When this happend to my car.. it SMOKED the shift solenods.. ALL OF THEM
I didn't have 1st.. I didn't have 3rd or 4th.
I only had second gear and was 250 miles from home.

Wood, you really should listen to what KK was trying to tell you.
He was absolutely correct.

Dont be mad because he couldn't spoon feed you the correct information.
but his point out the diagram was WRONG should have prevented this.

You need "shift solenond 1" and "shift soleniod 2".

Repin the harness correctly, then replace the solenoid pack and you should be GOOD TO GO, unless you got a "bum trans".

Yes I know now that it's wrong - I'm not pissed off at KK but he could've put it a little differently in his reply...

Why has nobody changed the diagram???

Well I need to get the car home... I'm frustrated, this guy's done quite a bit of work and I'm at my limit of what I want to pay him.

Is the main harness easy to get to with the trans installed?

Never mind... I'll just figure it out myself.

yea the harness comes off.. it's fairly easy to mess with while in the car.

When mine smoked the solenoids, I paid a local transmission guy to solve it.
he charged me 140.00, and that included the solenoids and the mercron 5.

Hang in there dood, your close.

ATLEAST your car is only 6 miles from home... Mine was 250 miles from home.
Driving in second gear at 55MPH was 4500-5500RPM's for 4.5 hours...THAT SUCKED.

The truth of the matter is I only knew it was wrong.... I don't know what right is because I've never had to repin one... sorry I couldn't help ya more, I was just pointing out what I knew.

Yeah I don't have too far to go.

Dumb question... do I need ALL new solenoids (TCC, EPC, 1&2... etc)? Or do I just need the 1 and 2?

KK - I should've just found a different diagram. Live and learn the hard way!
Since the fluid is new I guess I can just drain it and refill when I'm done.

Hopefully after this trans gets worked out I can focus on getting my suspension in.

On mine it was ONLY the SS1 and SS 2.

what are your symptoms?
do you only have second gear?

if it's only got second gear.. when you drive it.. you MIGHT think it's only got first.

what you do.. is put the shifter into 2nd..then get to about 20-25MPH and pull it into first.. if it doesnt downshift, your stuck in second.

second is "limp home" for this trans.
The trans uses a combination of both shift solenids to make each gear happen.
Second gear is commaned by both soleniod being OFF..
So if you lose the soleniods the car is only in second.

But it also takes BOTH soleniods to make each of the other gears

Ok well I got it back...

From a stop HOLY :q:q:q:q the thing is slow... takes forever to get going, but then at about 2-2.5k RPMs it acts like it should for being in 2nd gear.

Oh, and it spit out a plethora of codes:

621 - Shift Solenoid 1 Circuit Failure KOEO
622 - Shift Solenoid 2 Circuit Failure KOEO
624 - Electronic Pressure Control Circuit Failure
638 - Transmission Fluid Temperature Sensor Circuit Below Minimum Voltage
652 - Torque Converter Clutch Solenoid Circuit Failure

So ah - EVERYTHING electronically inside the trans is messed up... from being wired incorrectly. When i find some time I'll re-wire the connector so hopefully it will work itself out.
