Anyone have tips on good services from the shop? I like to swap all fluids, change filters, and all that when I first get a car. Going in for them to swap cooling, tranny fluid and filter, power steering, fuel filter, and belt since car is at 75,000. Anything else you guys think is good? Will be swapping plugs and COPS and air filter myself.
 
150K miles is the change interval for the transmission fluid, but I agree with you about doing twice as often. I had a full fluid exchange on both of mine at about 75K miles. The 04 is now due again at 150K miles.

The belt is rated for 150K miles and from what I've seen it can actually do that. In any event you might as well wait until your belt tensioner starts to fail to change the belt too.

Some cars do seem to need to have the power steering fluid changed every so often. However, I haven't seen the need for this with the LS, or any of the Ford/Mercury/Lincolns I have or I've had.
 
In multiple threads, it was noticed that one of the ford engineers recommends every 30K miles for this particular series of transmissions.
 
Intake manifold tuning valve O rings(While you have the intake plenum off)
Check the gaskets on the plenum where it mates up to the manifold
PCV valve, elbow and hose. You should be able to buy hose mat. from parts store, I dont think you need to buy these from Ford. Good Luck
 
Oh and do brakes all around, pads and rotors.

Most here prefer ceramic for low dust. Your choice of blank rotor along with a decent pad, like hawk hps. or raybestos.

Mark says ALL use is severe service and you should always follow the severe service schedule.
 
Thanks for all the tips. By the way, does anyone know of any write up for removing the front seats? I'm concerned about the airbag.
 
The front seats are easy. There's just a bolt or nut at each end of the rails connecting it to the floor. Slide the seat all the way back and remove the front ones. Slide it all the way forward and remove the back ones. Lean it forward a bit, tilt it up to disconnect the wires and pull it out. 5 minutes tops.
If you have the trim covers on the rails be careful when removing them so you don't break their tabs.
 
Ideally, you should disconnect the battery for at least ten minutes before you disconnect the airbag connector.
 
How in the world do you undo the front seat bolts? the rear came off fine, however the front are underneath the rail and it seems impossible to fit the wrench under there, much less a u-joint or anything else.

I don't recall it being any problem. I just moved the seat most of the way back to get the front bolts out and most or the way forward to get the rear bolts out

Does it matter if I have a first gen? I'll take a look again tommorow.

figured it out. didn't see them under the carpet. thanks.
