Seat Cover Question

I found a driver side seat cover (6A) for $75 plus shipping. It's from an 05 LS for my 03 LS. And I'm waiting for them to price me the whole armrest.

I bought the car this way 2 years ago. I'm now starting to work on and "mod" my LS.

I'm curious if once I replace this, will the gap in the foam from my seat cause this to rip again easily?

See how the foam is spread a little bit? Will that be an issue?

It was like that when I bought the car. Always bothered me. Just now getting around to "working" on my LS. Get New (to me) fenders from a 2000 LS with no damage or scratches. I'm still looking for the LSE? bumper with the chrome and round fogs for a good price.

Put some duct tape over the gap before you replace the cover. That will help it not to open up again. I have replaced my seat cover and it can be done, just takes a little time and the right tools. You need a hog ring pliers and a box of hog rings. Takes a few hours to pull the seat out and do it right.

Hog ring puller and hog rings? Where can I get these?

Any other advice or tips you can give me? I'm going to be pulling my passenger seat also to fix the "climate controlled seat" issue

hog ring pliers. like a pliers with a groove in in the teeth. Hog rings are wire loops that you attach the seat cover to the seat frame with. The pliers let you easily put them in. Especially in the middle of the seat where you have to attach the cover by pulling the hog rings through the foam rubber in the seat cushion to get to the seat frame. I know others have done is with regular pliers, but it would be much more difficult. I got mine at the local ACE hardware. Cost about twelve bucks altogether.

When you pull the seat out and look at how the cover is attached you will see wire loops holding it on. Those are the hog rings. You can reuse them, but they do get twisted and bent. Much easier to use new ones. There are probably 40 of them in the bottom part of each seat.

Just glue the foam back together when you have the cover off. I'd use the 3M spray adhesive for headliners.

I dont know if it would apply to you. but my 2000 has a driver side airbag . I had to disconnect the battery since there is a part of the cloth on the inside of the seat cover that was attached to the airbag by some bolts.

I already planned on disconnecting the negative battery cable. Thank's for the heads up though.

All years of the LS have airbags in the two front seats. Models with the optional side curtain air bags (in the roof) still have seat mounted air bags, but they are smaller ones than those without the curtain option.

I would disconnect both, and wait about 30 minutes. in a situation like this it is better to take extra precautions just in case. An airbag to the face wouldn't be cool.. Thanks joegr for The Knowledge. I will get another LS once i get back to the upper 48 states. I bought an 06 highlander for now.
