Does anyone rent this scantool? Seems like renting the tool from a fellow member would be an advantageous arrangement, particularly for someone who wants to do a one-off tune or reflash.

I thought that the tool locked to the car it was used on, until that car was set back to original. If so, I don't see how renting out the tool could possibly work.

yep, so renting the tuner from somebody would only work if they wanted to go back to the stock tune...

so it wouldn't really be renting it from somebody as much as it would be buying from somebody...

Okay, I guess I just didn't understand how it works. I thought it was used to flash the ECM with custom parameters.

It is. But when it does that, it locks itself as a form of DRM. I'm sure it does this to prevent exactly what you suggested. They want to sell one of these for each car.

Can I program more than 1 vehicle with an SCT automotive handheld programmer?
No. Each SCT device locks to the vehicle the tune is installed on, however, if you return the vehicle to the
stock / original factory tune using the SCT device, your SCT device can then be used on a different vehicle.

when it unlocks from said car, it restores back to factory stock from that same hand held unit, thus leaving further unlocks left for other assignment.
Should you purchase a SCT where it's current status is locked, you'd have to send it in for reset which comes with new programming for your car. ($$$ ofcourse.)

Files can be locked where the author does not "openly" want to share his parameters and in that process puts you in need of him for any little small tweaks.

Other SCT applications, like Lifewire TS, allows you to make "adjustments" to several parameters from a series of custom tunes for your make/model.

Have a look at the "ADJUSTABLE OPTIONS" tab.

Pricey unit though!

EDIT: SCT iTSX looks fun also. / http://www.ebay.ca/itm/SCT-iTSX-TSX...n|Model:LS&hash=item1c2c7da531&vxp=mtr&_uhb=1
