Hey Everyone, this is another SCT Tuner thread, but I have a question about it I think hasn't been asked before.

I own two Ford vehicles, my 2004 LS V8 and my wife's 2006 Mustang GT A/T. I am wondering if I buy either the SC3 or iTSX For Andriod wireless programmer, if I can manage more than one vehicle at a time. I would like to add cold-air intake to both cars, and I've seen that you get the best gains when you use a tune in combination with the CAI.

My other question is regarding the LS, one of my "bugs" about the car (as put in another recent thread) is the throttle response. I have a feeling that it was programmed for the best possible fuel economy, and for the occasional old lady who bought one thinking it was just a smaller Town Car, it just doesn't want to go until it's buried about 1/2 way down. Does the SCT/Tune really do much to fix that feeling of having to punish my car just to get it to take off at a decent rate?

TIA

no, the units lock up when you use them to tune a car, and dont unlock until you put the OEM tune back on.

So there is no solution out there that allows you to have tunes for more than one car? I haven't heard much about the iTSX application with bluetooth OBDII adapter, is it possible that this tuner has that functionality? I've got an email in to hensonperformance.com and I'll post what they say here too...

That's how SCT gets their money - by making sure each unit can only be used with one car and making the units fairly expensive for what they are. Those funds then go into their R&D to provide the tuners the software and templates.
The iTSX looks like they just put their stuff into an iApp and got a bluetooth chip. What they don't talk about is the read rate. That's the problem with the bluetooth stuff. Hardwired readers can easily read hundreds of fields per second, while bluetooth vary from 1 to 30ish (for the really nice ones). So it's fine for basic work, but depending on what you want may be insufficient.

It'd be nice if the normal SCT tune files could be loaded via iTSX, but their website is mysteriously devoid of details.

using the tuners on more that one car is like buying a CD and burning it for all of your friend. that is the very last thing they ever what to happen. because they dont make money of custom tunes that you get from people like torrie. they would go out of business, if one person couple buy a tuner, tune their car, then let this friend barrow it then that friend...

if you want to tune more than one car, be prepared to buy a tuner for each car, take each car to the tuner, are tart tuning yourself

The tunes are tied to the VIN #, and are written around the hex code which can be different from each vehicle and model.

My custom tune by Torrie made a big difference in the throttle response on my 2nd gen, stock seemed down right dangerously slow.

EFI Live allows you to use one control unit on multiple vehicles. You buy a license for each vehicle for 100 bucks, and you don't have to have a large stack of programmers laying about. Unfortunately it won't talk to Fords, it will only talk to GM vehicles and some Dodge diesel trucks. Mine is currently licensed to reprogram one 2000 Silverado, three 2001 Silverados, one 2002 Camaro, one 2007 Silverado, and will soon be licensed for a 2002 Firebird that my brother traded his 1995 Corvette for. If I wanted to I could buy a class license for about 1000 dollars that would allow me to reprogram as many vehicles as I want i that class. I should really start looking at converting my Silverado licenses. I discussed this thinking with SCT, but they seem intent on requiring you to buy and store a separate tuning device per vehicle.

OK Thanks for the advice everyone, I just need to decide whether its worth getting two tuners now, I am willing to pay for custom tunes for each car and I understand that's how SCT makes their money (by making you buy one for each car) but I don't think I can justify throwing down that much cash for two tuners, it just seems like a waste to me.

Any other advice on how to get better throttle response without getting a tune? Does a CAI help at all without a tune?

TIA

The CAI will help overall performance by making the LS breath easer but probably not the the stock 2nd gen throttle by wire response.
