Getting a dyno tune at a shop is going to be better than a chip. That is real-time tuning and not a "blind tune" that you get with a chip. There is no way for a remote person who set you up with a chip to be sure that your lock-up, shift points, and A/F ratios are at an optimum.
Even the best of the best chip tuners out there are still guessing. There is no real-time data from YOUR car for them to look at like a dyno tuner can look at when he gets your car all hooked up.
Now I know that you are probably not looking for something wild and crazy, or maybe your are, but if I could go back in time, I would have just taken it to the dyno. Now I have to go forward in time and spend more money again to do what I should have done in the first place.
If you want to go all out, you can get a tuner with SCT Pro Racing software for example. This allows you to take it one step beyond (and even in addition to the dyno) and actually data-log the car and its behavior as you are driving it and/or racing it down the track. There are things that your car will tell you in real-world driving situations that you won't necessarily see on the dyno.
