TLDR: does anyone have ideas or suggestions on why my scanner won't communicate with the PATS module on an 05 LS Sport after replacing the PCM?
My brother has a 2005 LS Sport with the 3.9, and it recently went into "ETC Failsafe Mode" and had codes for the electronic throttle.
Anyways, we tried to figure out the issue....replaced the throttle position sensor (didn't help), new coils and plugs hoping that would fix it (nope), went on the Interwebs and discovered that a bad coil can apparently short out the PCM.
He ordered a rebuilt PCM and installed it, then we went to do this "parameter reset" in the antitheft module that they said you have to do. I plugged in my scanner and finally found it listed under the instrument cluster module (why there, I don't know). Waited for 10 minutes for it to gain security access, and that worked fine. However, when I went to do the parameter reset, it said "device unable to communicate with module."
Has this happened to anyone here, and do y'all have ideas where I could start with figuring out what's going on? The only things I can think of that could cause loss of communication are:
1. module unplugged, but it's communicating fine with the instrument cluster where the module is supposed to be
2. wiring messed up or chewed by rodents
3. fuse?
4. CANbus problems? (please no)
5. could be my scanner (Autel MaxiSys Ultra) but I doubt it, last update was 2020 which should be recent enough?
6. maybe the rebuilt PCM is bad (crying noises)
