I am considering a 06 LS which is salvage (repairable).
It hit a pole, front passenger side corner, kind of behind the bumper support, infront of the wheel.
Anyone here have experience, or know much about the things which could be a problem to find/replace in that front corner - wring harness in particular.
The car would need Pass fender, bumper cover, headlight header/lights, rad support, rad, a/c condensor, hood .
Or does anyone know of a wreck 03' and up with a good front corner.
Pete

I'm no mechanic but I would imagine that in order to have a salvage title on the car it would have significant damage (especially being an 06). I mean the car is (was) likely worth $20-28k (USD) before it was wrecked. I dont know how the salvage laws are there in Toranto but I would suspect the insurance company to fix anything less than $15k in damage and not total the car.

I am guessing it will have more front end damage than just that. I would suspect suspension/steering damage with possible frame damage. Do you have any pictures to show us so we could provide more usable advise?

Some insurance policies provide that if you bought the car new, and it's wrecked within the first 12mos/12,000mi they will replace it with a new vehicle. They were still selling new 2006's well into 2007, so it's possible that a car that was not really "totalled" would still have been replaced by the insurance company.

This is true. I had not though of that. Pictures of the damage would really help.

more details

It was a rental, I am told that the rental companies are often self insured, and replace vehicles - they don't want to tie up $ in a car while it is repaired.

I am certain it is repairable, I am just trying to make sure that when all is done that it is basically about $5k below the lowest price 06' I can find.

spend the extra $5K and buy a non-damaged vehicle, that looks like it will cost a lot. Not worth the headaches. LS suspension is aluminum, if any of that even has a hair line fracture youre looking at big bucks to replace it.

Yeah....no thanks.

Spend the extra cash and get an LS that is not damaged. 06's are running at a good price right now.

I wouldnt touch that car. Just wondering what the price is for that?

i can't tell too much just from that photo but from what i can see, the damage isn't that bad.

I just recently finished fixing up a salvage '02 LSE, you can check out some of the older photos in my photo gallery.

but my dad is a mechanic at a lincoln dealership so i was able to get a lot of the parts really cheap..

My vote.... keep looking.
If you are really concerned about the $5k you would be saving on this car find yourself an 05. They are practically identical anyway. Price on an 06 can vary by more than $5k based on mileage anyway, and you can find an 05 for a bit below those.

If you do decide to repair it you have a lot of work ahead of you. And if so I hope you plan to do most of it yourself (or a friend/relative's garage) because labor alone will cost you a pretty penny.

It looks like you will need wheels (at least one) as well as a mess of other parts. As you mentioned wiring harnesses will be fun since the electrical distribution system looks to be a pile of spaghetti. Even after the repair you may have electrical gremlins that would trouble you. Did the airbags deploy? Is there any interior damage? How much do they want for the car anyway?

Another thing to consider. Since it has a salvage title if you purchase it and fix it up to good-as-new condition you may have trouble insuring it for what it's worth (what you put in it).

new info on this wreck 'rebuildable'

I had someone look at this 1st hand.
To make a long story short, the pictures are better than reality;
The front control arm, and strut were put in with the spare on so it could be moved around/look nice sitting there.
The brake caliper was even missing.
Kmember was cracked, drivers side rail was also pushed, damage on drivers side door (opposite to the hit side).
Damage was into the fire wall.
Seams it was 'prettied up' from the as wrecked condition, definitely not worth fixing, price was the better part of $5k.
Regards all
Peter
