How many airbags does the LS have? And is it true that the LS is one of the safest cars of all time?

4 that I know of but I might be wrong.

You have the driver, passenger, and a left and right curtain air bag

As far as safest if all time.

I doubt that. Volvo to my knowledge has held that title (as safest) for awhile.

...

If you have side curtain airbags (an option), then you have six airbags.

Driver, Passenger, Left seat side airbag, right seat airbag, optional left curtain air bag, optional right curtain airbag.

The curtain airbags are in the ceiling and there is an SRS label on the headliner if you have those. If you do, then the seat mounted side airbags are smaller, but they are still there.

LS has a five star crash rating... "one of the safest of all time" is something I've never heard

See some test results here as for safety ratings:

http://www.iihs.org/iihs/ratings/vehicle/v/lincoln/ls/2000

and from the Wiki:

Safety
The Lincoln LS has received very high marks in occupant protection. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has rated the LS as a "Best Pick" with a perfect score in their frontal offset crash test. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration gave the LS almost perfect scores in its side impact and rollover tests. In fact, CNBC rated the LS as “one of the five safest cars of all time.”

Of course times have changed and safety has improved, but for when the LS was engineered and initially offered, it was a very safe vehicle.

In 2001 the LS was on a MSN's list of top 10 safest cars ever made. But that was in 2001. But I will say I rolled my first LS, and I only had a small bruise on my hip where I slammed into the side of the car, and I also was in a head on front end collision in one and only had a small burn on my arm where the airbag rubbed my arm when it deployed out of the steering wheel.

It's safeness is one of the reasons I picked it.

T-Money's parents never did let him ride the bumperkarts!

I kid, I kid ....
