What do you call the rubber seal that goes around the throttle body end of the air intake tube ?

I call them annoying! Mine was shredded and tough to get back into place so it wasn't leaking.

I got a couple decent ones from the junk yard:

The part number isn't found which is no real surprise other than I think it was used on other cars that have the wide twin blade TB. F7LX-9D634-AF

Mine's called hardware store weatherstripping and duct tape.

Bangster,

Thanks for the pics.

I couldn't see the part number on mine.

Now all I have to do find one in good condition.

Since it goes on the outside of the intake tube and under the clamp, what is it supposed to do ?

I don't see one on the other end near the air filter box.

Soduka,

And that stays together well ?

If I can't find one, making one will be the only other option.

The one I've got is malformed.

It is spit, and slips on over the end, so part of it goes between the intake tube and throttle body, sealing it.

I don't think the MAF/filter side needs it because it is round, and seals fine even with the hard plastic on hard plastic.

The MAF side the tube inside matches the outside size of the MAF connector. Since it is round when you tighten the clamp it seals without needing the rubber seal:

The oval side has a stepped down lip for the rubber seal

It slips over the end, with a seal part inside, and on the outside so the clamp keeps it in place (it also has holes that slip over extended lugs)

The first inch is much thinner than the rest, you can't quite make out the step, I can't get a good picture of it

The real Ford part number is F7LZ-9D634-AA. Retails for around $20 when you could get them. You might be able to find one new, but it's a long shot. Ask a dealer to do a nationwide search. This dealer MIGHT have one, if so it's probably the last one on earth:

Bob Allen Ford
(913) 381-2999

BTW, those number you see molded or printed or stamped on parts are engineering numbers, not part numbers.

I have a bunch of them. If you want to message me your address I will mail you one. Bruce

The gasket I have only wraps around the outside - it doesn't have an inside part to seal the intake tube to the throttle body.

Bangster,

Thanks for going to the trouble with the helpful pictures.

If I hadn't seen them, I wouldn't have known it acts more like a seal rather than a gasket.

Marcus,

Thanks for getting the real part number.

How did you find it ?

I called the Ford dealer above, but they didn't have any in stock. Neither did a local dealer.
