Rough Idle on warm startup.

Still. Don't waste the time.... Swap them out too....piece of mind at least

I have oem plugs but if someone can link me a sutable replacement from ebay.

I got my cel read and cleared today at autozone and all that showed up was p1299 (now im thinking the ETC failsafe was due to low coolant and not coils). My degas bottle is the original so from time to time i have to add coolant...guess its time to replace it as well.

And i havent had any rough idles since ive posted this thread on the stock coils and plugs but i have the new plugs and coils ready to install asap if it happens.

Also does this seem like a good deal?

Its similar to the scanner autozone uses.

I see a lot of confusion about this.

ETC failsafe DOES NOT EQUAL failsafe cooling

ETC failsafe:
Caused by failed throttle body, failed gas pedal, faulty coil, or other electrical noise.
Results in the wrench symbol lighting up or an ECT failsafe message.
Causes the engine to have only idle and slightly above idle power.
The engine may run poorly or smoothly.
Will cause codes like P2107, P2110, ...

failsafe cooling:
Caused by engine temperature going too high.
Results in the temperature gauge going all the way to hot. Results in an overheating message.
Causes the engine to have reduced power and run very roughly.
Causes full engine shutdown if it gets too hot.
Will cause codes like P1299

So theres two different ETC modes??

I dont want to replace the coils if its not needed right now and i know ford will charge to stress test them. Or i can have my mechanic check it as im sure he has the equipment needed.

No.
There are two different failsafe modes.
ETC failsafe and failsafe cooling.

ETC stands for Electronic Throttle Control.

Note that gen I has failsafe cooling, but no ETC and therefore no ETC failsafe mode.

If you had a P1299, then that has no relation to the ETC or the coils/plugs. It's a cooling system problem.

Thanks.

Any input on the scanner i linked??

I have no experience with it, but it doesn't look bad. It won't do everything, but you'd probably have to spend over $400 to do much better.

Mine was "chugging" when i would step on it or just cruise and had a rough idol, i went to get a check up and since its an LS i had to get the high performance check up the 8th cylinder misfired and had some minor problems. that might be the problem

Update.

Just got the car back today. I had no idea how bad it was running compared to now. I had the visteon coils and NGK plugs installed. My plugs were good, and 7 out of 8 coils were good. Also there was no oil in any of the plug wells.

Had a marginal misfire on what you guys predicted...cylinder #8.

Also i found a surprise:

I was expecting some DG515/DG529 coils but i found these ebay ones instead. Nice huh? And i never thought to check what coils i had before since the car ran smooth until recently. And even then it was still smooth most the time.

So does anybody want a batch of 7 good coils with a bad one mixed in there somewhere (sorry forgot to identify bad coil) Along with some oem motorcraft platinum plugs? The plugs have maybe 5K miles on them or less.

Just make me an offer....im about to post a new thread with them along with some other stuff i have for sale.
