Has anyone had there tires balanced using this method? Is it worth it or not. I just put new tires on and had them spin balanced but still have a slight shimmy.I have found a local dealer that does it but don't know if it will help.

I say it's worth it. I paid $100 to have my winter setup balanced - I have NO vibrations whatsoever now, and I'm very sensitive to the slightest shake/wobble.

On the other hand, my summer setup was conventionally balanced and vibrates at certain speeds.

Mine are road forced and they feel great! Drives smooth as silk on the freeway.

I need to do this...i get a slight vibration at 70mph.

As long as they are not charging a premium for it, it is well worth it. I found a local dealer that does balancing for $16 each...and their equipment just happens to be a nice Road Force machine.

Just got back from having tires done on a road force machine. 3 out of 4 tires are out of round beyond specs. Called Discount Tire they are sending me 3 new tires and will try again tires are Kumho Ecsta Platinum. They said manufacture will refund mounting and balancing cost. Prob should have bought from local tire store.

Worth it. I just had new tires put on by the dealer, and a shimmy started happening. Road force balancing finally fixed it.

Just got back from getting my 3 replacement tires from discount tire mounted and road forced balanced and what a difference. These ones were all in spec and no more shimmy. This is a great machine for balancing tires. Discount Tire replaced tires with no questions and said they would pay for mounting after they receive old tires.

both of my LS's have had this problem, super smooth until about 67 MPH then it has a wobble until about 75. after that it was smooth sailing all the way up to 130.

Ive already replaced every consumable part of the suspension, i'll have to give this a try and see if it fixes it

Problem

I just had mine road forced today. I have a 2005 Lincoln LS with 18 " Zinik Z5 rims. I bought brand new Firestone Indy 500 Wide Ovals. They started shaking badly at about 1000 miles. Took them in today to have them road force balanced. All wheels/tires were brought to around 15 to 16 pounds of road force.

I go back on the freeway, and sure enough anything 65-80mph shakes badly.

My stock rims and tires don't shake at all.

No idea what to do, probably a good thing to stay away from aftermarket rims and tires on this car.

If it was fine for a while then got bad, it could have thrown a wheel weight, or a pothole bent it or something.

Does it have excessive runout on the conventional balancer?

Perhaps its just a bad set of tires. It happens.

I get my tires balanced by a local shop who does a great job everythime. I found a very busy shop that has a Road Force balancer and had them balance my tires had to go back three times before it was even close. I feel alot has to do with who is using the machine properly. The local shop does not use a Road Force.

I had mine done but two of my rims have a wobble so there is nothing they can do even with road force. Hopefully I'll be getting two rims to replace the bad ones.

I work for a tire shop in Rhode Island, any customer of mine that comes in with rims 18" or larger i always recommend a road force balance. It matches the tire to the rim. It can also tell you if your rim is bent or out of round. I just put my summer tires back on and i found that under high speed balance they balanced out fine but when I road forced them there was one rim that was out of round and needs to be replace. Again I recommend it.

100% Agree with all these points. I have a friend that owns a bunch of Big-O Tire centers and has made the same comments/recomendations.

i've had a few pass road force but when I measure fim run-out it fails. because if one the inner lip is bent and the outer is not, alot of times it will not fail road force balance because the drum will ride on the end that does not have a bent lip.

the point is, go to a firestone that has a hunter gsp9700 it has a printer.
request they measure each rims runout as well as road force balancing and print the results
