As I said in my intro, my first project involved replacing coils and spark plugs. I do not consider myself a season mechanic but I usually take care of the normal maintenance items myself. After starting my own company I have been trying to learn how to service more and more items to help save money.
I wanted to post a couple of pics of what I ran into on this project.
I followed the instructions of the tech article on removing the upper intake. First problem I ran into was stripping the head of one of the upper intake bolts. I tried everything to get that damn bolt out. Took me 3 days of running around buying new tools and trying to get it out before I finally went with my 1st idea. I ended up welding a bigger nut to it and finally got it off.
finally after getting the upper intake off I replaced the coils and plugs, the egr gasket and the upper intake gasket. But I was left with another 6 gaskets that I couldnt figure out what to do with. It wasnt till my current project that I found out where they went. i told you I wasnt a pro
I think it would be helpful if the tech article updated to show that you need to remove the fuel rail and unbolt the gasket cover to get to the other gaskets. Wish I would have known this the first time. Here are some pics
after i finished the project the car ran great but started to have a bad shake when stopped and around 50 mph. The car's power steering fluid started leaking and started making noise. I finally found the lead and didnt know what the hell to do. the leak was coming out of some wires. Here is where the fluid was spraying out of.
Thankfully this site had information on this problem. i bought the new power steering pressure switch. Took a 19 mm deep socket, changed it out, refilled the fluid, bled the air and power steering works great. Also replaced the fuel filter.
But the shakes continued and brings me up to date on my repair. Next thread will have some of my current issues.
