I have checked the threads but havent found anything on this,
before I start taking apart the top of my engine, how difficult is it to replace an alternator on a 2001 Lincoln LS V8 ?
Is this something I can do in my driveway, or do I need any special tools?
Any feed back would be great,
thanks

I can't say on the LS, but I've done 3 alternators on 3 different cars and they were all easy. pick yourself up a shop manual as insurance and have at it.

Do a search. The alternator on the V8 is under the car..by the AC unit.

It's not a fun job, but do-able. If you can get access to a lift? The job becomes WAY easier..vs laying on your back on the ground and fiddling around in a tight space.

Suggestion: Avoid the Duralast and other off-brand remanufactured units and order a MotorCraft replacement from one of the online vendors. I had a Duralast that lasted one year. Sure the warranty is "lifetime", but you have to bring back the unit to Advance or Autozone, and then they will simply issue you a same crappy replacement.

For labor, Pep Boys uses their book cost for labor, and charged me $78 total to replace mine. WELL worth it to me.

thanks for help guys,
after about 1/2 hour of disassembling everything, and about another three hours of trying to squeeze it out of the space they leave you to replace this thing, I finally got it changed out,

good job. did you use a motorcraft alternator or something else?

yep - it's funny - when you finally get it positioned correctly it falls out....
