i'm talkin 2000 LS v8.
is it possible to have a misfire but not throw the CEL? my LS has been running soo bad at 45+mph when getting on the throttle, regardless if i get on it slightly, or pin the throttle. it keeps stuttering from 45-100 when i accelerate. it runs smooth as a whistle when i set cruise control or just stay at steady speed. i notice the owner before me had 1 coil replaced 13000 miles ago, but on the reciept shows no sign of gasket or plug replaced. is it possible for the coils to last that many more miles and not fail completely? also recent oil change, 5 days ago i noticed a dot of oil on the underside of the exhaust manifold. is that pretty much a sure sign of defective vc gaskets. sorry for a long post and i did search the site so i do see that this has been discussed before. any suggestions are greatly appreciated

yes - often you can mis-fire without throwing a CEL.

if the vc gaskets are leaking then it's not a coil - but oil in the spark plug well shorting out the coil firing - causing a misfire. This can also ruin the coil.

If it is a coil going bad (without the oil leak causing the problem) they do typically deteriorate - and get worse over time.
