removing 2000 center console

ok I just bought a 2002 ls center console .. Now how do I remove the wood piece and the ash tray that comes out?

I don't want to break anything

First, remove the ashtray. Open it, and push up from the bottom of the woodgrain:

Second, push the ashtray closed:

Third, pull gently from the top of the woodgrain to release one clip behind:

Four, repeat to release clip on other side:

Fifth, Remove woodgrain piece. Figured this step didn't need a pic

Sixth, pull up from front of console cover to remove:

Easy as that!

I just want to say that I am new to these forums but i am on a lot of other ones and that has to be one of the coolest things that i have seen someone do to help another person out on any forum!

btw i've taken the console off without taking the ashtray off. i'm just saying in case you haven't done it yet you reduce your chances of braking something if you don't have to do it. and also STANKINLS, we do try to help out our members to the best of our abilities, although some get a little bothered when people don't do a search before starting a thread

funny thing, before i made this thread, i looked closely at the ash tray, i was like, how would i remove it if i got junk in there ( i dont smoke ), so i was playing around with it a little bit, and saw the bottom a little loose when i was touching it, i thought it needed to be glued, but that whole piece is the ash tray. i didnt want to pull it out because i thought it needed to be glued haha.

But now its all good, I'm just waiting for the part to come in. Can't wait for the upgrade, i went somewhere and bought a drink, damn drink couldn't even fit in the 00' cup holders, i had to put it in the back seat cup holders.

Yeah I put my cigarette lighter in the flip up cup holder and then closed it and it fell inside the console. Just took it off to get it back. Good sutff.

actually dont have to remove the ashtray. You can place a skinny flathead where his finger is in pic #3, and carefully pry down and out, and that woodgrain piece will pop right out.
