My wife's car, black '03 325i, used to have a bra on it. I can tell because I can see exactly where it was! We took it to a body shop recently to have some damaged clear coat fixed up (apparently it was egged years ago and ate through the clear). Anyway, the body shop told us if we wanted to get rid of the bra marks to have it wet sanded.

I read in another thread about Meguiars Scratch X. I'm sure there are other similar products, too. But I don't know much about wet sanding. should that be considered a worst case scenario? Should I try the Scratch X first or will I be wasting my time since they're not your standard light swirl scratches?

Post some pics and I'm sure someone could help.

You could do many things depending on how deep the scratches are but if you shot some pics KD or someone could probably hit it right off the bat for you.

I'll be the first to tell you that polishing by hand might not accomplish much. You would be better off with a machine polisher.

And if they in fact are scratches, can you catch a fingernail in them? If you can, there's a good chance that it's too deep to completely repair.

Scratch X seemed pretty tame to me. Pics of the hood would def help to see what you're up against

And yes, wet sanding would be a last resort. I'm interested in what Kyle has for advice.

I'll have to take a closer look at it tonight when I get home. I'll run my fingernail over it and see if I can get some good photos. I really don't want to pay anyone to wet sand the car. But I don't have an electric buffer, either...

Do you make it up to northern MN ever? I just got this yesterday:

put the bra on before you take pictures. you can't load nude photos on here

Yeah but I don't make it all the way up to BFE. Brainerd is as far as I get (Baxter technically...). Looks like you're set to go to war, though!

By the way, I think I had those same counter tops in my last house. Home Depot?

hehe, I wondered how long it would take for someone to make a comment like that. I've got to say I'm pretty impressed! :D

Home Depot? Better watch your language... I bought them through me, actually. My career is retail end of kitchen cabinetry, countertop materials, flooring, and windows. Family owned business. And we are actually LESS expensive that Home Depot!

The color on the countertops is Deepstar Bronze laminate, made by Wilsonart. I love the look.

I'm a little over an hour from Brainerd, so that might be kind of a hike for you just to take care of some scratches.

hehe. sorry 'bout that. consider my mouth 'watched' from here on out. I know we got ours at HD but i remember the name brand or the color. Pretty similar looking, though.

My wife has been pestering me for new countertops since we moved into our new-to-us house 1.5 years ago. Would I be able to give you the measuments, specify what type of edge and back splash and order something? Or do you only deal with stores?

Man, talk about off-topic....

i can picture Pete reading this and saying "BLASPHEMY!!!", lol :p. now, back to the topic

Dammit. I took a handful of photos last night but left the camera at home. I'll get them uploaded tonight I guess...

This is a shot of the right front of the hood. The top of the picture is the front of the car. I don't know what this pic will show but when I rub my fingernail over it there's nothing to catch on.

I think I'm gonna start by claying the car. Going over it like that will give me a good idea of what I'm dealing with. But I'm open to suggestions!!

If your fingernail doesn't catch, You can most likely buff it out. I don't think you'll need to wetsand. Yes, wash and clay, then take a look.

3m swirl mark remover

Hey go to Napa and get some 3m swirl mark remover. It works great on fine scratches. Do not use power equipment, ever. You just put this stuff on like paste wax, work it in, let dry and buff off. Great results every time.
