Hi guys, Im following Mr. Howies write up for car stereo install on an 02 LS. He talks about removing the pin on a wiring harness to be able to relocate the steering wheel control wire on an American International wiring harness. I cant seem to be able to remove the pin or the wire on the harness. Can someone clarify how to do this? All he says is use a "t pin" to remove it and Im unsure what that is. heres the link for your reference.

So do i insert the needle in the back where the wire comes out or from inside the connector where the pin is? Also, do you know what gauge the wires are?

The gauge has to be around 22 or smaller, you need to insert it from the terminal side, there is a small release tab inside that you have to move away from the terminal and then pull the wire back.

The only reason why I know this is I work for a company that builds wiring harnesses...been there for 18 years I think.

When I did my install I did not do this part, and at this time of night I can't remember how I connected it, I think my connectors mated right up.

Do you remember which connector you bought? It would be easier to not have to change anything to get the steering wheel controls to work!

My brain is working this morning, I soldered the wire from the control box to the back of the factory wire harness.

Like the write up said if you want a cleaner look go with how they did it.

I need to pull my HU out one of these next couple of days, I should snag some pics of my harness.

That would be great! I can't get this pin out of the harness. I've tried a needle, small screw driver and paper clip. Would radio shack or an auto store be able to get it out for me? This is literally the only thing postponing my install.

No, but either one could tear up the connector for you.

Why pull the pin out. In the worst case, just splice into that wire in the factory harness. I can't remember if I did that on my 04 or if the harness adapter correctly brought that wire out. Either way, I know that I didn't remove any pins from the factory connectors.

I would just splice in to it.

Hint...try to splice it as close as possible to the factory connector. I've heard that if you shorten the length up from the factory it may have interference.

Do I believe it? No...but why chance it I guess.
