I just finished putting together the 3.9 engine on my LS after replacing 2 bent exhaust valves and I had a surprise when adding antifreeze. I got about 3/4 gallon in when liquid started pouring onto the ground from the back of the engine. I can't find where it is coming from. (I haven't spent a lot of time looking yet) I see liquid coming down the outside of the bell housing (and also appears to be coming from the inside of the bell housing). I also saw some droplets hanging onto the exhaust coupling.

My first thought is the water hose underneath the intake broke or something else on the intake. Any ideas or examples? Thank you in advance

you would know better than us. Check item 24 and 25 to start in the first chart here,. After that try around item 11. Good luck

It could possibly be the two heater hoses that run along the firewall. I believe they go to the coolant reservoir. They are a PITA to get at, but doable. :D

Got it!

It was the water pump gasket. I purchased a new water pump and the configuration is slighty different than the original (where the o-ring goes). I ended up discarding the metal gasket/spacer and went with a paper gasket. This new pump doesn't look like it will allow the o-ring to seal with the metal gasket. The brand name of the pump is GMB and it is the metal impellar.

The car is sitting level and it just seemed weird that no drips were coming from the front of the engine. Have a good day.
