Does anyone know where i can get the black seal around the outside of my back window on a 94 mark? Mine is dry-rotted and falling off. Thanks

yeah call your local auto glass supplier and crap yourself when you hear the price, the only factory fix is to replace the rear window, that seal is bonded with the glass, it does not come off unless you take a razor blade to it. it is not replaceable. people have come up with different " fixes " for it, but none look as good as the original seal. so if you have about 800 to 1000 to blow, live with it, or search the web for other peoples make shift solutions to the problem. i have a whole window with a flawless seal on it i took out of a mark VIII before sending the car to the crusher, i'll sell the window for $350 bucks, but i wont ship it, unless someone wants a crate full of broken glass. its from a 97 so it has the radio antenna in the rear defrost grid, but it will work in 93-96 also, they all fit all years 93-98, but you cant put a 93-96 glass in a 97 or 98 unless you dont want to listen to your radio!!

I still plan to cut the seal off and flush mount the glass next time I spray the car. The gaps will need to be filled some in order to look good, so it's more than just paint work though.

I thought of that too, but if you use filler you will have to be careful. The window is a large fix piece, if the vehicle flexes and twists - which it will - then the filler will crack out, or the window will. Make sense? You could try making your own rubber seal to wrap around the trailing edge, then place filler between that and the body, but even then the seal/rubber would have to be at least a quarter inch thick.

Yeah, I apologize for only reading half your post and for using the word fill, I'm not planning on having 1/4" x 1/2" chunk of bondo filling the gap, I'll brake some sheetmetal and weld it in, lay in the glass, and make sure everything sits smooth. Thanks for the heads up anyways though! That would definately be a good point. The main pain of it I think will be taking the window in and out until the right amount of silicone glass sealant's in to get the glass perfectly flush with the body, so as to not look like it even has a window (being tinted).

94m5 was trying to come up with an idea to produce a cover for the seal. I trimed off the ripple on my 94 doesn't look bad. Looks better then all the waves..

I have the rear window from a 94 that I parted out... seal is almost perfect. I should check to see how much it would cost to have them swapped. Just hope it doesn't break LOL

Oddly mine has no ripple at all, not even a hint. Yet its pitted to high heaven.

We are in the same neighborhood mespock, I wonder why mine did not go the same way as yours.

Ummmm.... my 93 which the was originally purchased in Manitowoc looks fine.

My 94 which took a tour of the US starting in Kansas then to Michigan then to Maryland looks all rotted.

My 95 has spent time in Califorina, Maryland, and I picked it up in South Carolina.

Could you use a heat gun to make it soft & then form it to it's origional shape? Then you might be able the glue it to the car with some type of an adhesive.
So far mine only has a couple very tiny ripples. It's almost perfect as far as Marks go, however I know it's only a matter of time until it gets worse.

I had my painted in my old car. it wasnt bad, it kept the sun from getting to it and makeing it worse, my new one, well, I might as well put duct tape over it.

My parted out 93 still has the back window in it and I can't figure out how the get the damn thing out.

you have to cut it out from inside the car. call a glass guy, they'll do it for about 50 bucks. if you try to take it out from outside the car, you'll wreck the gasket around it.

My 97 has the same problem and it looks ugly as hell, thanks for the warning about the price. I plan on painting the car and trim items are a big concern.

When I got my windows tinted last year(?), I asked how much a new rear window was for my '94 and got a price of ~$600 CDN new. Whats the comp. deductible on your insurance (alot of glass companies will pay the deductible too for windows depending how high it is ;) )
