I have a,1996 MKV111 LSC.I was driving home last night.I felt the rear end start to wiggle. To dark to pull over and check on highway. This morning took off back left tire.Noticed rotor scored and rotor loose. Can I replace these bearings my self with common tools or does this need special tools to do.
Thanks in advance for all responces.

Need to press them in/out.

A scored rotor could be a frozen caliper. Did you put the lug nuts back on before checking the rotor for play? Because it floats on the studs without a wheel/lugs.

Get both back wheels off the ground, trans in N, spin back wheels by hand, grab wheel at 6 and 12 and try to wiggle in and out...there should be NO play.

Having a shop press a bearing will run you about $50-$60, just take your spindle and have your already purchased bearing installed.

I already called Advance Auto, walk-in price on the bearing is $29.99

Rear Bearing Replacement Procedure

NOTE: There are two approved methods for removing the hub from the rear wheel bearing. Both methods are outlined.

Removal:
.1. Remove rear wheel knuckle and rear hub from vehicle as outlined.
.2. Place rear wheel knuckle and rear hub assembly in a vise.

Method One:

nice pictures.
i tried a puller, and after about 2 seconds ditched it and went to my press. a little heat and some pb blaster along with some carefully stacked wood supports, everything popped apart nicely and then right back together.

I have tools to take knuckle off.Where would I bring to have this done.Local Lincoln Mercury dealer,Pepboys,or do most garages know how to do this.

Well, that's the issue, as many shops don't correctly support the inner bearing race when replacing the hub, as I pointed out in the thread that I linked. You can tell when it's been done improperly as the hub will wiggle a bit after it's been installed.

I sure wouldn't go to Pep Boys. You need to find a shop that's willing to back their work with a guarantee.

If you were closer, I could do it for you.
