I took my 93 Mark to pep boys to have the rear shocks replaced. They were set to install the Monroe Sensatracs 5965s and they called me and said that they are to short. I dont know two much about shocks, but from what ive gathered these should fit. They said they will have to call the factory and find out about replacements, they also said they have to get the bushings from the factory. Are they full of crap or what?

Any suggestions?

do them your self
get 96-97 t-bird shocks or IRS cobra shocks and cut or burn out old bushings
and reinstall

I guess I could give it a shot. I've never done shocks before though. Any idea why they would say they were too short? They are 1996 T Bird Shocks Monroe Sensatracs part#5695 i believe

I did the coil conversion and put 95 Thunderbird shocks on. I bought ( the coil conversion kit )from Eddie Spinks at American Air Suspension. He kows all about shocks, airbag system etc. Phone# 423-487-4321. He's highly respected on this website and should be able to direct you correctly. He's a retired Lincoln Tech. I lack the the expertise to help you myself..:)

they are too short because the morons have the car on the lift with the rear spindles hanging all the way down thats why they are too short, unless you are a driver in the joey chitwood stunt show, and your car is going to leave the ground often, they shocks they are trying to put on are fine if they would raise the rear spindle assemblies an inch when trying to put the shocks on. my sensatracs were short too until i lowered the car on my jack and put some pressure on the spindles so the shaft of the shock would go up through the hole. you would be better off doing it yourself in the driveway. it takes 30 minutes if you have never done it!

I would NEVER go to pep boys for service. They are notorious for ripping people off. As you can see from Jamies last post they are IDIOTS too!

thank you. You guys are great, thanks for the help

Yes they fit and they fit fine. When I did mine all I had to do was lower the car to get some pressure on the tires to bring them up - as noted above.

Pep boys is crap. worked there in my younger days and i'd know first hand. There parts dept aint half bad but the service writers are a bunch of "you need this, that, this to do that ect. But they will def take advantage of idiots, as is the case with most writers anyway.

When i first bought my car i took it there for a new rack, they refused to work on it and said the rack was discontinued. B.S. They only thing i'd be willing to get done there anymore are alighnments, tires, and fluid changes.

I haven't been to pepboys in ten years. Got two tires for my 74 Challenger and pulled over on my way home because of a nasty vibration. Lugs were loose and the wheel was flopping around.
