Rear rotors are being difficult

So I ordered new drilled and slotted rotors all the way around, and today after work I spent a good 4 hours or so working on getting them on. This is my first encounter with 4 wheel disc brakes, so rears were a little different for me. I rented a caliper piston tool and got the drivers side done after some problems lining up the caliper and bracket after the new pads were installed (does anyone else have problems putting the rear pads in? they didn't want to stay in one spot for me) Also, I discovered my first stuck caliper pin. no amount of PB blaster would coax this M-effer out, so i need to replace that asap, which also means i will be replacing the bracket. Cheap, so not too mad about that. but when I go to do the other rear wheel, the first bolt i encounter has a head like a hula hoop. nothing I could do to get it off right now, so I had to leave the dirty ol rotor and pads AS IS. Will this mess my new rotors and pads up if i have to drive it for maybe 10-20 miles tomorrow? Im going to probably end up getting a new bracket for that side too, along with new slide pins. The front brakes took me maybe 40 mins for both sides. at least something went right in this job. Sorry for the lengthy post, but I need to know if I'm going to ruin my new setup because i spent TOO much money to do it again.

Dynamite. Great for removing stuck alternators and break components.

For the rear rotors, make sure you pull off the lock washers on the studs. There should be two on each side of the car. It's kind of a bitch to get them off. Use a pair of pliers, screwdriver, whatever you need to get them off. Shouldn't need to put them back on. The wheels will hold the rotors on. Pretty sure the front doesn't have them.

If you can't get them to break loose, use a hammer to smack the rotor where it mates with the hub. Make sure you don't hit the actual meat of the rotor that the pads contact just in case you can't still get the rotor off.

My 2004 had lock washers on the front and back, like he said needle nose pliers to take them off, I did put them back on.

my 2002 must not of come with them, I didn't have any lock washers on the front or back

Or someone took them off then went "What the hell?" and relocated them... with dynamite. :shifty:

Although I did put them back on. Don't even take my own advice. I feel like such a hypocrite.

LOL Kumba you have a facination with....Dynamite.

There's no reason to put them back on. They were just there to make things easier on the assembly line. I didn't think anyone put them back after the first brake job. It was easier for me to cut them off than to work them off.

Those are called Tinnerman nuts. There installed with the sub-assembly before they are shipped to the production line so the rotors will not walk from the hubs and bounce around. The wheels fit over them without issue.

The two easiest ways of getting them off is to either split them with a cold chisel or use diagonal cutters to either cut them or grab one of the wings and pull them off.

I'm thinking that it was more of someone forgot to put them on because I am the only one who has done the brakes on the car

Forgot? You're not supposed to put them back on. There's no reason to. Your car's not going back down the assembly line.
