Rear Hub... it's become a saga.

So after putting on the new hub I drive out of the driveway and before I get to the end of the street I hear noise from the back left again.

I figure either the half-shaft was damaged or I didn't torque down the nut tight enough.

I torqued the nut to 150ft- lb's and then gave it all I had to rear the torque setting. I didn't use a cheater bar or anything.

Tomorrow I'll get a big breaker bar on that thing and give it a go...

Here's my confusion.

When I found the hub being bad I found it by jacking the car up and trying to move the wheel by pushing in the 12 and 6 o-clock position and it moved.

After I put the new hub on and tightened it I did the same thing and there was no play... is it possible for the hub to be giving me noise right away if it wasn't torqued down correctly (which I will remedy tomorrow) but should I be looking at a bad half-shaft.

Is the rear hub seated all the way and the rotor is not touching the rear brake caliper?

What do you mean "I torqued it to 150ft and THEN GAVE IT ALL I HAD" sounds like you installed it properly... and then ruined it again
Are you using a torque wrench that's set to the proper torque spec? Or are you just guessing?

I torqued it to 140, then to 150.. figuring the difference there and how hard I was already pushing ( I figured I didn't have enough strength and leverage to hit 250 ) I torqued till I thought I was in the range of .. what is it 210-250 ftlbs.

I'm going to rent a torque wrench today and see what it's set at. I could have very well damaged it... I've done dumber things in the past.

I'm not a super strong guy.. but I've snapped a 1/2" Snap-On ratchet in half with no cheater pipe.. so its very conceivable that you've over torqued it...
That's why they make Torque Wrenches!

But still inspect the brake pads and axle (usually if the dust boot covering the CV joint isn't ripped open, then the axle is typically OK) that's not ALWAYS the case, but I've yet to see a bad axle that still had a good boot.

It also helps to know HOW to use a T.W. Ive seen guys use one and it click and they still keep turning the nut/bolt just because it'll still turn. Set the wrench, turn nut, "Click" STOP
You can easily achieve 300+lb with just a wrench

Ok guys. Wanted to update you. Tested the torque with a big torque wrench that actually went to 250 and it was torqued to 230-240. It was well within the range of the suggested torque. But, after driving it a bit more it was obvious that it wasn't the back hub. It was the front right hub. So... after a new front right hub the car sounds great.
