Was just thinking about switching up my rear end gears and I noticed there were other threads with minimal input from what to seem to be our most knowledgable members, ElEs, QuikLS and GreyGhost(ken). Just wondering what you guys think about this about switching gears from the current 3.31's found in the newer LS8's. Personally I thinking switching 3.31's to 3.58's is a waste of money. Don't think you would see a significant performance gain from that swap. I am interested in 3.73's and maybe even 4.10's. What do you guys think about the switch in general? Not even sure if anyone has attempted this but if so has anyone out there had any luck doing the switch? How much would this switch make a difference in the quarter-mile?

Not trying to usurp Quick and the guys but unless you get 3.73's or 4.10's custom made then 3.58 is your only choice.

Most (if not all) of the V6's came with 3.58's, early V8's did, and all cars 03 and newer have 3.58's. I think gas mileage was the main reason they were originally replaced with 3.31's in 00-02 V8's.

:I

there hasn't been anyone that has successfully swap rearends that I know of.

there are a couple of projects in the works - the LLSOC is working on a swap.

Yea...those gears are not available for our rears. I looked at this when I rebuilt my rear diff 6 months ago.

What did the OLOA LS team do? They put in a limited-slip didn't they? Anybody here have any details on the car? The only possibilities that I can think of would be that they either had a custom carrier made or they modified a center section from another rwd irs car.

I've got a carrier out of an 04 Cobra sitting in my garage that I would love to sit next to one of these and see what the difference is. It may be so much that it is totally impossible to fit and/or machine. But it would be interesting to see. Anyone know what the spline count is on these axles?
