So last night I drove to STL to hang out with some buddies of mine, and came out to my car in the morning and someone had broken in and jacked the radio, trip computer buttons, and HVAC controls! WTF? Mind you I parked in a "secure" parking garage! FML!

sorry bro, once my competiton system got jacked out of my Grand Prix I sold it and havent bought another aftermarket unit since. Not worth risk in my opinion

I bought this car with the unit already in it - I normally don't spend any money on a fancy headunit. I might upgrade my speakers, but not some fancy touchscreen navigation unit

People are f*in jerks! They should all be shot right between the eyes. I hope you had good insurance. And screw them if you can because insurance companies should all be shot right between the eyes.

Why the h3ll would they need to tear it up like that? I don't get it. This is exactly why I'm not putting my DVD nav system in my LS. I should just sell the navi I have on ebay.

Haven't some of you ever heard of an alarm. I have an after market remote starter and alarm That has 2 way communication. if my alarm goes off I know it, and yes the remote alarm is loud. It will alert me up to a mile away, tell me if my windows are down, etc...

I have an in dash touch screen DVD/CD unit as well... only mine is on a motor and tucks cleanly away when I want to hide the screen... looks just like a regular old 100 dollar head unit in stealth mode

:-)

but yeah man, sorry for the loss OP... I know that feeling in the chest, where if you knew them... the things you would do... LIKE YOUR RIBS ARE GRINDING FOR BLOOD!

xD

from the looks of it....the alarm wudnt have stopped em much. most alarms are meant to deter and prevent theft of the actual vehicle. but nowadays, from out of the blue, thieves have grown immense balls and figure they have a window of about 30 sec to a minute before anyone will get to the car....plenty of time to rip apart the console....bend the metal the navi is attached to....f*ck up ur leather....rip apart ur wires and still anything u have layin around. sh*t like this happens all the time in jersey, with myself being a prior victim to it....im not one to talk about living a crime free legit life...but f*ck even some people have standards....being a thief is frowned upon and is the lowest of the low among the criminals......either way...f*ck whoever did that sh*t and dont worry....theyll get what they deserve...one of these days somebody is gonna catch them during the act....drag em into there home and kill them....of course...being that u go tem in the house....chances are u will walk away form jail since its now "self defense"

FYI - My LS has the Viper 2 way pager alarm / remote start and I still got jacked. It offered a false sense of security. The pager didn't do me any good considering the car was in a the bottom of a supposed "secure" parking garage, and I was on the 27th floor of a hotel all night. The pager didn't go off until I entered the garage in the morning telling me the car was f*cked with - so the siren went off and no one paid it any mind. . .

Can the garage be held liable?

That sucks man, I know how it feels. It gets me pissed when people steal. Maybe you could try one of those false radio unit covers, the one where it looks like soneone already stole your radio so they wont try taking it and go to the next car.

How did it not page you if it is still under a mile? I was thinking of getting one of those soon.

sry about the break-in. while most thieves these days really don't care about an alarm, it is better than not having one at all. this one dude broke my back window in my apartment complex a few years back at 2 in the morning. my alarm didn't go off but my pager told me that someone either touched my car or tried to open the door. the guy was in there long enough to cut the wires of my headrests and as soon as i came down i gave chase to the @sshole. while he still cut my wires and broke a window, he didn't get to take all my stuff, and it was solely due to my 2 way alarm. i wish i would have had my piece on me, but it was 2am and i was damn near half asleep.

Thats messed up. I think the worst is that those bloodsuckas damaged the dash too.

I'm betting it was because of concrete.

:slam ooops :D . Still though. A mile away is a lot of room for things in between in a normal parking place. A lot of buildings could be in the way and concrete too.

when we ask for how to set up a stock system, people bitch and complain in this forum. "why get stock when you can get alpine?" they say.

nobody will jack a nav from a stock 04 ls. but, ironically, and this exemplifies the stupidity of thivery- if it was apparent-, the stock costs more than the aftermarket (assuming it's a decent aftermarket). :q:q:q:qing stupid :q:q:q:q:q:q:q:q:q:qs

but an aftermarket can go on any car, a stock can only go on a certain car

actually somebody broke into my uncles expedition and stole his factory nav, do you really think the stupid thieves look to see whether the radio is factory or not before they try to steal it? nope they see a big screen and there in and out. hell unless they own the exact kind of car it could be very difficult to tell if the unit was factory or not, they do know the big screen (factory or not) means that it is expensive

the worse part is with as much damage was done to the steel bracket to get the radio out, there is no way the the stolen unit would not be damaged.

to the OP, been there, it does suck, but nothing to worry as long as you got

INSURANCE

phone call, and drop the car off, and pick it up later all fixed up and pretty. the worse part is driving around some bull sh!t rentacar. (that ford focus did see more air time than the General Lee did! rofl)
