I'm in the process of doing a gen 1 mark vIII motor swap in my 97 thunderbird. I've done my home work on all of the required parts and have been taking my time with the swap. I'm a member over on TCCoA, MarkVIII org, and now here. Thanks for having me.

I'm finally ready to start cleaning up the engine and painting a few of the top end parts. The car is alpine green (sort of a dark blue/green) so I was thinking about going with some silver or ford blue painted parts just to highlight. I'm already running ford blue spark plug wires. I'm not looking to go too bold under the hood but just wanted some opinions on what color to paint which parts or even just some pictures for inspiration from others with painted valve covers, wire covers, coolant crossover tubes, intake tubes, etc....

Also are there any alternatives to the plain jane black coolant hoses for the 4v's? I've seen a picture of one with high milar blue hoses but I've been unable to find anything like them.

Goodyear doesn't make those blue "hi miler" hoses for 4v's. Some guys have gone with slip-on braided stainless steel hose covers.
 
My suggestion would be to powder coat your parts in the color you want. Crossover tube and paint don't get along after a while. People here have pics of some powder coated parts and engines and they look good. It might be a little higher but it seems like you're going all the way with it so you may as well do this once.

This is Chadly's engine before he added the Cobra intake. The intake pictured was powder coated and also the valve covers.

I think (phreakness) had his powder coated the color of his choice.

Color is a personal choice I like stock myself.

I would powder coat If I was to do anything, eastwood has every thing you need to do it, just get an old electric stove from craigslist and stick it in the garage.

Here's the one I'm referencing. I love how this one looks as well, although I'm really diggin Chadly's as well.

It might be a little added trouble but having the alternator casing done to match looks best to me.

I'm sure more pics will be posted when others come on later on this evening. I have seen some beautiful looking powder coated engines on here but by all means, go with powder coating. It's a lot easier to keep it maintained, cleaned, ect. than traditional paint.

As for the blue hoses, I have no clue but you may as well go with colored braided hoses and be done with it, if you can find them to match to your likings.
 
Anyone have a picture of chrome valve covers? Or chome powdercoated valve covers? Or chrome painted valve covers? Or polished aluminum? My fiance wants to see what that would look like by comparison to the silver. She apparently thinks that they shinier the better. Plus chrome doesn't hold dirt as much as polished.

Chrome powdercoat?

I've done alot of powdercoating, I have friends (with absolute show cars, I'm not saying that because they're my friends, but because it's the truth) that have done alot of powdercoating, including chrome. .. and I've farmed out a LOT of powdercoating, primarily through Allied in Houston. Probably close to 2 grand worth per week every week at a $ rate per lb that nobody on here will or has prob ever see/n. I've been around powdercoat ALOT, and asked alot of questions, and understand it well. Not saying these guys don't. But when it comes to you saying CHROME powdercoat, understand- Chrome powdercoat is NOTHING like Chrome. And Chrome powdercoat doesn't clean any easier than any other COLOR of powdercoat. Real Chrome is not a COLOR. It cannot be duplicated. Powdercoat is a powder that's baked on, that's it. No nickel, no copper, no nothing.

So if you want chrome because you think it'll look like Chrome, forget it.

If you want chrome because you think it will clean easier, forget it.

I understand you're not just referring to just powdercoat, but if anybody that doesn't know better tries to tell you to try chrome powdercoat this is JUST a heads UP..!

The only time i would use chrome powder coat on anything it would be to do another layer of the anodized looking powder coat, and i would also do about three layers of the chrome looking powder coat, otherwise i would just get it plated.

ponies, have you ever tried waxing your parts after powdercoating, all you need is water and it is clean, trust me in know what you mean about powder coating hard to clean, but if you wax it , it is a ton of a difference, Where i work we have a paint line, we go through about 5k worth of powder coating a day, we use a special hybrid mix, not sure what it is mixed with, but it is crazy durable compared to other straight powder coat

Tommy, you forgot to mention that he needs to check his o rings. You know how things can become "flaming" if you don't. :p

search for midwestbird on tccoa hes the owner of the one i built. hope your ready for a tight fit, gotta remove the wiper cowl to take off the intake tube

Yes, as I said I've done the homework on this. I know its a tight fit. I'm ok with that.

didnt know till we were done, the cowl was removed during install than after the eng was finished we put it on, and it cleared so ehh whatever, haven't needed to open it up since then
