Hello everyone, im new to this forum and will be here quite a bit in the comming months with some suprises however I have a question.. Upon first start engine decel there is a rather odd noise comming from the engine. I have a pretty good idea of what is making the sounds however im just interested if its a normality for these 3.9's or if something has gone amis. To best destribe the noise, its as though every single bucket has a 0.050 gap lol or like the timing chains are very lose, and its very muffled lol, the car is an 05 with less than 30k on it btw, anyone else's ls do this? or am I pulling the heads off it ahead of schedule? lol

is it a metal grinding type of noise and after the car gets worm it goes away, thats the issue that im having on my 04 v8 --

I'm also getting that noise. Mine is a '00 LS V8 with about 137K.

Best way I can describe it is as a loud whuur. It kinda goes away when the vehicle warms up. I'm just hoping it's not the bearings that are going out. :( Would suck big nuts!

hmm dont know i just take it to the dealer and they change out the oil, all i know they use fully synthetic oil, i even added a lucas oil treatment and same issue.

I also use a fully synthetic filter. I need to check which oil filter i'm using. I know i've used the FRAM ones before. Anyhow, any idea as to what the noise could be?

My best guess without actually listening to it is a dry valve train on start up. The oil in the feed passages could be draining back into the pan due to a bad anti drain-back valve in the oil filter.
That should only last a few seconds at most. If this is a continuous sound that lasts several minutes there may be permanent damage to the engine.

Yes it is under warranty so its not a big deal I was just curoius to see if anyone else was getting that same issue, and ya its like a muffled cam noise that fades when it hits operating temp. Secondly I use royal purple 5w-30 (i know it calls for 5w-20) lol trust me its fine, and I use a wix filter, use to use the motorcraft part # when i worked at the dealer but not anymore I switched to wix because thats what we've used on our race cars forever with no problems, anywho ya I would agree that its a valve train issue, and the oil type, weight, and filter type have no effect on it, thanks for the response ya'll
