Ram-air intake?

We all know that there is no space under the hood for forced-induction systems like superchargers or turbochargers, and that's before even considering the technical difficulties of adding such a thing to an engine which already runs a 10.75:1 compression ratio. But has anyone looked into a ram-air system? I know for a fact that a hoodscoop would look like trash on the LS, and the intake is at the front of the engine anyway. But perhaps we could steal some airflow from the grille or lower intake. It probably wouldn't provide much boost (probably a blessing with this engine) but it also wouldn't be expensive.

they are many, many threads on this - where people ran a tube from the lower grill up into a airbox.

as for your other comments on no room under the hood and hood scoop.... click on my signature to see pictures of both....

I'm with QuikLS on this one.

he knows his stuff.

And with the dohc configuration you don't want the boost up high, you want it come in at low revs so that it will build torque early.
Having had a v6 with the same sort of blower as QuikLS is using, I can tell you, the motor will be totally different.

I just wish he was developing it for a V6

My searches for "ram air" or "ram" turned up nothing. I'm not calling you a liar by any means, but I am calling the search on this board a piece of crap, and it's not the first time.

I have 5 things to say about that:
1. Nice work!
2. That's Not a "scoop". Its much better.
3. How did you fit all that stuff under there?
3. Doesn't look like trash.
4. Nice work!

heres an idea for you.

not street legal where I live, The cops would line up to hand you tickets for that.

And QuikLS's hood has an NACA Scoop fitted to it. It doesn't have to stick up above the surface of the hood to be a scoop.

i know, i was just messin around. but that is about as ram-air as you can get without modifying the hood.

That's pretty cool. Any water issues? Can you hear it? Let's see some under the hood pics. Very creative!

This is the only under hood pic available, this car is long gone.

No water issues at all, there was a 1/2" hole drilled into the bottom of the air box to let water drain out if any got in at all. You could hear it, which was cool, it was sucking in air and you could stop the motor running by putting your hand over it.

This mod cost like $30 by buying a used headlamp off Ebay and routing the tubing through the head lamp. Cheaper than cutting the hood up.

I did a sealed ram air, forced air, cold air...whatever you want to call it and it seemed to decrease the power. At times it seemed to stumble a little. I also posted pictures on my project. I personally dont think that the enigne responded very well to the change.
