Ok I was told I needed to run wires from the factory amp to the cd player to add a aftermarket radio in my 97 Mark with the JBL system.
Is their a harness to bypass the amp???? WHere can I get one??? Dose anyone know the part#??? Thanks

I was also told the same thing! I happened to be in Circuit City the other day and one of the salesmen in the stereo dept told me they had free installation if you buy a stereo. So I explained to him when I had my old stereo installed in my mark by a local shop near my house and they told me I would also have to run speaker wire from the amp to the cd player. He looked at me funny and said thats what they make an amp bypass for. So, I just have to by the bypass and I'll be ok. I don't know who else sells the bypass.

why bypass the amp? when i had the factory amp (i upgraded :D) all i used was the headunit wiring kit, its a little tough finding the kit for the amplified system so be sure to check your stock radio connectors before buying i went to a custom installers shop and told him it was the jbl amplified system and viola!

i didnt bypass the amp when i put my kenwood in, i got the little kit that plugs into the factory wiring, the kit i bought was labeled for a Ranger  ...........but it had the two plugs for a Mark.

oh and i searched for it at the stereo shop myself, the first two shops i went to made weird faces when i told them i had the JBL, they kept directing me to a harness that wasnt the right one......

yup thats what happened to me at best buy ans circuit city, and i thought my kit was for a explorer or something like that

Yeah but I really dont wanna rerun all the wires yet. I just wanna be able to use my ipod

re-run nothing, this is a plug and play. wire the adapters to the headunit and plug the entire thing into the vehicle harness, 5 min installation time. i BELIEVE this is the kit you need, http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_5947_PAC+ADD-FRD2.html id wait for someone else to chime in as i did mine 3 years ago. but i think the little green connector was the hard one to find (mine wasnt a big harness like that, that one looks kinda "universal") no running wires, no amp bypass, wire the adapters to your radio and plug your car into it
*ninja edit* this is more what mine looked like (i think) http://www.beavsbargains.com/default.asp?S=500&A=F&SearchText=ford+explorer&CategoryID=786543

Yeah for sure... I have one of those bypass wiring harnesses... it's like 10 wires to one harness that you have to run to the back... doesn't seem to hard... I think what it does is makes it so you can hook your stereo into the harness after the factory amp... if anyone wants it they can just pay for shipping and I'll send it to you... got it for free when I got my deck... but decided to rewire everything... had two aftermarket amps anyways... it wasn't that hard just time extensive... gettin the amp power wire was the hardest part... besides that it was probably the easiest car I've ever wired...

no he doesnt want to run wires to the trunk, there is no need to bypass the amp unless its fried, he just needs the headunit wiring kit

Can anyone confirm that this works on a 97 with the JBL system????? Dont wanna buy if its garbage

i used a kit in my 97 and my 98 for aftermarket head unit with the use of the stock jbl amp and stock speakers. first off, DONT EVER GO TO CIRCUIT CITY OR BEST BUY FOR CAR AUDIO HELP. the retards they hire there are the ones who got fired from the pretzel hut across the way at the mall. the harness you need is short, sold at walmart for around 11 bucks, and takes 15 minutes to hook up, you simply hook the marked wires on the new head unit to the matching marked wires on the new harness, then simply plug the new harness into the factory stereo harness and you are done. no need to wire anything to the trunk or even open the trunk for that matter.

I actually just got back from walmart and found one that did work LOL thanks for all the help guys!

If anyone wants to know the part# for that harness its FDK106 made by Scosche. I know I had trouble trying to find a harness. Hope that will help anyone els out.
