So I am trying to replace the coils and plugs today. The left side (looking from drivers seat) isn't hard, however the right side looks pretty insane. Do I have to completely remove the upper intake manifold and all the cables and nonsense to get to the other side? I looked at the write up for it and it talks about draining the cooling system and a heap of other stuff I had no Idea I had to do. am I missing something here?

Ian.

I guess what I'm really asking is can I just lift it up and do the work? I'm just annoyed about the draining the cooling system thing. I feel like most people have a work around for it. I really hate how ambiguous alldata is.

Did you take a look at the TECH ARTICLES at the top of the page, explains both coils & spark plugs.

Draining the coolant is the easiest step in the v6 coil replacement job.

While your in there, be sure to do the PCV elbow, intake manifold gaskets, and VCGs.

The first time I did v6 coils it took a full weekend.

After doing it 14 or 15 times now (twice on my car) I've got it down to about 4 hours, start to finish, including drinking time.

I did it 3 times on my old 2000 (still in the family...) and NEVER drained the coolant.

Just go slowly and remember what you disconnected and what goes where. You also MUST remove the shock tower brace to remove the plenum.

year? V6 or v8?

It has to be a V6, a V8 owner should never ask a question like that.
