Quick Blend door Q:?

Ok Im gonna do it this weekend and I just need some tips on getting the screw out that you cant see. Anyone with some tips please??? Jamie maybe??

do your finger tips have sensation still? thats all you need. i lay on the floor and close my eyes and use my fingers, i never look at the blend door screws, all you need is a 1/4 inch ratchet and shallow 8 mm socket and your fingers, you seriously dont need to see them, there are 4 of them on each corner of the actuator, its easy.
 
TAKE OUT THE INFO CENTER. Its right there. My hand are huge so i got numerous cuts and scrapes. Found out the trick above when putting it back together.
 
My biggest prob was the top left screw and all the screws in general even with a ratcheting wrench and getting the dash far enough out to get the acuator in and out. Ended up getting it out by raising it up and over. Couldnt just slide it over. It's reinforced so hopefully i wont have to do it again. That job took me many a weekends last winter. Would take me maybe 3hrs now.
 
it must be because i have been in out and under these cars since 99 but the blend door is butter. so many people say remove this, remove that, do this do that, man i would do 30 blend doors over 1 tranny swap any day of the week. i have never removed the message screen to do a blend door, the only thing i physically take off the dash is the very top panel to get to the top bolts, the trim panel under the column, the glovebox door, thats all, its butter to do a blend door, brandon, dont even sweat it man its so easy, if you can put air in your tire, you can do it.

you still need to write up the tutorial on how to do it in a new york minute. We'd all love to no. make it easy.
 
ok guys i fix the blend door now my dash wont fit back into place

what is making it not fit?

something behind the dash that you moved?
 
(goes without saying)
projects such as these should not have "hard defined time limits".

..nothing ever goes as planned and you always have something "pop up".
Especially when.. "you gotta be a work at..."

Might want to start planning on alternate transportation to work, THEN worry about getting the car back together.
You DONT want to rush, hurry this job.. there is atleast ONE place behind the dash that you can damage a very large wiring harness if you just "JAM" the dash back into place.

That may be what's keeping it from going back into place
CHECK the harness where they get close to metal supports!
 
it can only go on way way, lift it up and in, you have studs on the bottom of the dash where your kick panels are, the dash has to be lifted up to go back on them, i have never had a dash fight me going back in place. and you should pick a day you have OFF to do something like this, not start it right before work!

A lesson I learned a couple years ago with these cars, you always think "oh this will be a piece of cake, it should only take a few hours", two days later, you're still screwing with it!

no kiding. the first time you do it that is. It's a learning process.The blend door took me forever. I couldnt get the dash far out enough to get the acuator were it was supposed to go, had to lift it up and over, not just slide it through. Tight fit for me esp with ginormously large hands. dis/Assembely was easy though.


Same with the air susp. Doing front and rears seemed diff at the time but i can do each corner in under 20min now.

don't even worry about it. If its that big of a deal wrap them both in newspaper and tape it. They have very little contact with anything.
 
I did my blend door in a little over 4 hours with minimal help from a friend, basically, he helped me slide the dash out and slide it back in, the rest I did alone. It was my first time but it wasn't too difficult. The drivers side top screw was the hardest, because I couldn't see it, had to do it all by feel.
 
brandon why are you worried about your steering wheel, you wont go anywhere near the wheel! you dont have to touch it or the column, leave the column bolted to the dash.
