My pass side rear speaker in the door in blown out and has an annoying buzz. Today at my local Best Buy I saw a pair of Pioneer 6" x 8" 3-Way Car Speakers for $40. I am really tempted to go pick em up. Good idea? Bad idea? Thoughts on Pioneer?

Your Right With Your 6x8 is Wrote in the Tech Article, but went i remove my door cover I thought it was 5x7 because they are smaller then 6x9 I don't think it was 6x8 because that not a commun size

fords and some mazda's have there own speaker size, it's 6x8 (thats why the pioneer's say right on the speaker "custom fit for ford, mazda")

the pioneer 6x8's are a direct fit for fords and mazda's, and for the price are not too bad, is that the TS-A6872R, they are definitly better than a blown speaker, pioneer, sony, and kenwood tend to focus on loudness instead of sound quality, i would recomend somthing like an alpine or infinity for your fronts for better sound and then take the good factory front and put it in the back

you can use a 5x7 if you want to but the size is 6x8, and a 5x7 is a tad too small, most 5x7 do come with adapter rings to fit the 6x8 opening a little better also remember to get the speaker harnesses (metra 72-5600 and you will probably have to ask for them because they usualy keep them in the back) so that you can just plug in the new speakers and dont have to cut off the factory plug (rookie sh!t) and then have to worry about getting the polarity right (because it will sound like sh!t if you hook it up backwards)

incase there is any confusion, Lincoln = Ford

I have Kicker 6x8's in all 4 doors they fit fine with no mods.

I wish I would have known about the speaker harnesses, I spliced mine in and just had to fix one of them

yea there nice, also cuts the install time down by quite a bit (it adds up when you replace a bunch of speakers in a day, every day... )

The 6x8 will fit with no modifications. I have 6x8 Infinity Kappas and they fit with no problem. The factory speakers were the same size also.

1LoudLS - I bow to you. Before I went to get speakers I pulled one outta the door to see how they hooked up. I figured I would have to cut off the plug even though I knew there had to be some sort of harness/adapter. Anyway, I went and actually picked up some infinity speakers and asked the guy working in the car audio section if he knew of an adapter. He looked at me as if I were crazy. Anyway, I came back expecting to cut off the plug or splice into the other wires in order to hook up the new speakers. I checked on here before I did anything and saw your post. Thank you so much. I ran back to best buy and picked up the harness, came home and replaced both speakers in the back doors in about 15 minutes....so much easier than if I had to cut wires and sh*t.

Live and learn my friend, never cut a harness to nothing in a car . Good you was persistence in your quest to find out what you needed.

no problem my friend, most people just are not aware that such things exist unless they do it all day long, that was probably the best $11.99 you ever spent, people always freak out and think that im just tring to rip them off when they see an estimate and the parts and labor cost just as much as the cheap equipment they want installed.

and there is a special place in hell for harness hacking, duct tape using as electrical tape, home electrical wire nut twisting, no correct tool having, car fire starting, jackholes out there, you should see some of the sh!t that comes through here, everybody hears our labor rates and says "oh i can handle it myself" then you see them the next day with broken door panels, blown fuses, and cut wires, then i get to see there faces get real sick when they find out how much more it cost to do the job AND fix all the stuff they broke :)

BTW, did you get the reference or the kappa infinity's, they both always sound real smooth, do you still have the factories in the fronts, if so i would put the good speakers in the front so you can really hear them and then put the factorys in the rears, its so hard to hear the rears because they are so low in the door

I am pretty picky and really was against cutting the factory wiring or doing some half-a$$ed job - not saying that those who did cut the wires did a crappy job, but it would bug me. I was hoping someone on here would lead me in the right direction and you certainly did.

I got the infinity reference because they were on sale and to be honest, I want a good sound system but I'm not some huge audiophile. I heard good things about them and they were some of the better speakers there - not the best, but better than the sony's, pioneer's and kenwood's I had to choose from. I put them in the rear doors. I know they are very muffled because of the location, so next week I plan to do the fronts with the same speakers. I actually bought 2 sets of wiring harnesses so I just have to wait to get paid next week to buy another set of speakers. I'm also hoping my best buy rewards come through sometime since I always give them my reward zone card, but generally don't bother trying to see how many "points" I have. I'll have to check it out and see if I can get a discount for wasting so much money there on other crap haha.
