Questions on SCT chip

Sup guys, I am a new member and I am not bored enough to search through all these threads for a topic on this chip. I own a 2000 Lincoln LS V8 and I plan on putting a chip in (was going to get QuikLS's super but I dunno if I can handle the maintenance). I heard SCT is very good...what we talking as far as gains and losses? I'd like to be educated before installing any mod for my car.
I'm sure the easy ones you'll give me is MPG, HP, TQ, and Price......

Pete, the SCT system isn't a 'chip', but a hand-held device that functions as an interface to connect a PC lap-top to your car's diagnostic port. (Under the edge of the dash by your right knee.) It can be used to pull trouble codes, and also can be used to alter a whole list of functions, not only for your engine, but also your transmission. Since I did a whole host of things to my car at roughly the same time, I'm probably not the best one to tell you about just what a re-tune will do. Others will speak to what happened with them, and you can approach ILLS, a member here, who is a tuner and dealer for SCT. One of the nicest things is that he can send you a tune by internet link.

Thanx but, good to know. I'm not punching out large mods because we have been having Flooding/Evacuations here in Washington as well as Record breaking Snow/Ice. not to mention i'm waiting for my court settlement to do things such as putting in Corsa mufflers, Body Kit, and paint job all in the same timeframe.

I just hear the SCT a lot so that good information to know that it isn't a chip. I just know the LS can get more power but I'd like to get the most gains with the least amount of parts to add or replace, making it UNABLE to take to a Ford or Lincoln delearship to fix even a simple breakdown...... I still would love Quik's Super though....

....This is again my first car I ever bought and i'm branching into these forums to educate myself and know of the mods outthere.
 
I have an SCT Xcal 2..... ILLS tune with it. The biggest gain you get from these isnt the 15-20 horsepower, but the use of the power. The transmission tune is paramount in these cars. Where you have a first gen, the tranny tune is even more vital to waking these cars up! I have over 400 to the crank easy... and the best mod I've done to her is getting my xcal and letting him tune my baby for me! It lets you get the most out of your furture mods as well!

Good to know. So what kind of tranny tune ups we talking?
 
all this reading on the programmers wants me to go out and get one or at least borrow one to get it done!! ha Is anyone here in the Nebraska regin that might know where I can get one at a decent price or would be able to get it tuned? Also like what Pete was asking what kind of tranny tune-ups are out there for us?
 
It firms up shifts, cleans up the sloppy 2-3 shift. You can also change shift points. All of this should be discussed with your tuner.

Frasch, each tune will only work with one strategy code. You wouldn't want to try someone else's tune on your ride. 400 bucks is reasonable for the result you get. I'll be getting mine this spring before I bring it to the track.

So with the SCT "i assume brand new" ur gonna get, it will also do the tranny tune up as well.

I wouldnt trust a shop programer and i would ask for the code from someone in the forum. To be on the safe side!! :cool:
 
Yes, brand new. Unless I can find one from someone who has returned their vehicle to stock tune.

I suggest pm'ing ILLS here. He has worked a lot with the LS, since he owned one until recently. He does the best tunes from what I've read.

Yes, the tune will include all changes you would like to make.

the "code" you refer to would be unique to each individual car. Pretty much, anyways.
 
anyone get a tune from ILLS for their ls that was stock? Kinda interested what time of gains you got all around? Or is this a question that I'll have to ILLS about?

From the SCT flash website they say you gain around 17 hp and 18 torq, right around there. Just curious!?

ILLS was mean to me in another thread so I'm gonna refrain from talking with him 'bout the tune-up til another time.

some guys have seen 20hp at the wheels, and shaved half to a full second off. The thing about tuning is that the more you modify your car, the more the tune can and has to be done. and example

owner- i have a CAI, Exhaust, and Egr Delete

tuner- Ok, well I can advance your timing a little further for you and turn off that sensor so the EGR doesn't throw codes.




or

owner- yeah i want the baddest tune you have

tuner- what have you done?

owner- nothing

tuner- well I can adjust your AFR's but your head studs wont hold up to too much extra pressure.

(powerstroke 6.0 guys should know all about that one)

i hope your not refering to his comment in CARBON's k&n air filter thread. he wasn't being mean, he was telling you the propper way to conduct yourself. you said it yourself, your too d@mn lazy to search for the info you want, you need other people to do it and spoon feed it to you. news flash, it has been taklked about many many times, with even more detail. do yourself a favor... wait, F' that, DO US ALL A FAVOR, and learn to use the search feature instead of creating useless threads that will fill up the search for the people that actually want to learn somthing

Guess you guys didn't get the sarcasm in my last comment. Plus I'm not lazy, just I have no clue where the search bar is, and I HATE hunt/peck.
And as for learning something, why don't read what I'm asking......you haven't involved yourself with this thread. I'm asking helping advice on SCT or possible chips for the car. I only have had one local guy tell me he can order in a blank chip and tune it from there. That's it, so I'm finding information to LEARN and help.
 
You cannot have a chip burned for this car. You have to use a hand held flash tuner to have any changes made.

I hear the Tornado adds like 5MPG, too.

My neighbor told me those lil guys are just a scam and don't actually work....I know my KKM CAI gave me an extra 8mpg average I went from 13.5mpg w/ premium fuel to 20mpg on premium when I made the sweitch...it'll be around 17.8mpg if I go "lead foot".

And yes I aknowledge that no chips can work. Just didn't know if there has been new items brought to play. So a flash tuner is what I should be seeking then...good to know

Your stock filter must have been totally plugged.
