My car when its under light load, mainly in 5th gear just cruising it will start to buck like there is an air leak or something. I tightened everyting about 20 times and even sprayed starter fluid around the air intake joints to see if there was an air leak and increase in RPM, but nothing!

I also disconnected the battery overnight twice and there are no CEL's at all. Is the MAF getting some kind of turbulence from this Typhoon intake??

Ive searched this forum but found nothing like this on my 04 issue.

Ray,

Check to make sure that the clamp on the throttle body is not over tightened. Other than that I don't think it would have anything to do with the KKM or K&N units.

Ken, what would overtightening the throttle body clamp do? would it over clamp the rubber and form a pocket for air to get in? Im lost on this one.

My home made CAI was working better than this, haha.

What I have seen in the past is that the clamp on the throttle body will tighten and not allow the throttle valve open and close properly.

does this bucking happen at the same speed everytime? Is it while your accel. or going the same speed?

The bucking is all across the board at any speed. Its usually under light acceleration and when I come to a sop the car sometimes drops to like 300 RPM and dies. That could explain the throttle plate not fully closing.

I first thought its the coils but the car still pulls VERY hard. There is no oil in my wells, only have 25K on the car.

have you checked to see if there are any codes what-so-ever?

RPM's Dropping down to 300 then stalling... that doesn't sound like stuck throttle plate to me. If that were the case, you'd be idleing high. Sounds like a vaccum or ignition problem to me.

IAC??? Just a guess. If the 03ups even have one.

Oh... damn I didn't even think of that! Can't believe it didn't come to mind. Might be a good one to check out!

no codes at all, put the stock intake on and the car runs fine. Its only with the Typhoon intake.

Well that's very strange... I'm lost!

Ken, I think you nailed the problem, I loosened up the clamp on the throttle body and pulled the Typhoon tube a little bit back away from the throttle body and so far no problems, I will give it a couple days to see if it is truely cleared up, but so far so good. Thanks for the suggestion!!

No problem. That typically fixes that problem about 90% of the time. Just keep an eye on it and let us know how it does.

my car bucks under a light load in 5th gear, i've got a strong feeling its the valve body as much as i hate to say it. please let us know how it goes for you.

The problem went away for a bit and is back, I put the stock airbox back on and the car runs great, Im dealing with K&N support now, but everything they told me to do(disconnect battery, etc..) Ive already done. It seems like the Typhoon is causing a Typhoon with the airflow it sends across the MAF sensor. K&N offered me a refund or exchange for the FIPK kit, so I may try the FIPK as a last shot.

I don't mean to hijack the thread but last week I felt a similar buck when I went to the car wash. It was one that has the jets that spray the under carriage and while I was sitting in the car wash, the car started to buck a little. I felt it for a while but as I drove it that night it slowly went away. Then, it rained 2 nights ago while I was driving and I started feeling it again, but not quite as bad. Could there be water getting on my KKM kit? I don't hear any squealing like a belt slipping or anything.
