So I finally chopped the dreaded third cat off and right now I've got the exhaust crudely patched together with some flexpipe and clamps. It has leaks and sounds like a hillbilly truck crossed with a Harley. I've looked at the X-pipes on ebay and they vary in price from like $24 to $80+ for brand names like magnaflow. Does the saying "you get what you pay for" apply here or can you just get a cheap X and get the same results?

Also would these be decent high-flow cats?

Check at ur local exhaust shop see wut they got I got mine for 75 for a true flow x magnaflow.......but I've heard both styles the true flow and the one the bounces off eachother with a slight hole for the flow on my buddies cobra and there isn't much difference down low but up top man that true flow is awesome sounding......

It should look like two pipe joined like siameise twins. I have seen X-pipes that realy look like a X and the flow is choked down to that of a single exhaust. It my even sound good but not perform. Cost shouldn't matter. design, Material, and Quality.

We've got an H-Pipe on the wife's '97 LSC. I don't know if it flows better or worse, but it sounds great with cherry bombs! And it was relatively cheap.

I would prefer an H pipe because they do make a much better and lower tone but I had no confidence in the local shops to make one. I bought the ebay $40 x-pipe and its very nice. Sapperfire has the same one on his and his car sounds nice.

I bought two for mine but only installed one so I have a spare one on the shelf. Wish I would have had it installed cause under mid acceleration I get a drone from 2500-4000 RPM. It goes away at cruise but is kinda annoying while getting to speed.

Thx for the advice. I'll definitely look into an H-pipe. How do these look?

Btw eventually I'd like to get some kooks headers for the car and have the whole exhaust redone with high flow cats, and new 2.5inch tubes. I'd be keeping the two magnaflow mufflers which are on the car now. Any idea what might sound the best with a setup like that?

Well I didn't have them make the x pipe they had it on the shelf and I get drone at 1800-2200 then it sounds like a stock lsc exhaust

A X-pipe resonator is a good choice if you want it loud run just it, and if you want it quitier run it with rear muffler. It give you more of the Cobra sound when the muffler/resonator is closer to the engine.

Believe it or not, my '96 base with cut-off mufflers and factory resonator is not as loud as my wife's LSC with H-pipe and cherry bombs.
It would be unless you are using their Vortex cans. The factory system is three chambers and insulated. A straight through fiberglass can or a simple 2 chamber can will be much much louder.

My 97 has had 4 different exhaust setups so far.
-Stock.
-Mufflers cut off with 3rd cat left in place: Wasn't too overwhelmingly loud, but it had too much drone and didn't really sound good.
-2 magnaflow mufflers with 3rd cat in place: BARELY louder than stock. It had a slight low rumble sometimes and that was it.
-Cut off 3rd cat/crudely patched the exhaust together with flexpipes and clamps. It sounds pretty good minus the leaks and odd flapping noises.

Ill sell it to you for $25 plus shipping. Dont think it will fit in a flat rate box so shipping may be as much as $15 but prolly less. I could just go ship it and let ya know as long as its below a specified ammount and then you can pay pal the cash. When I bought the two shipping was $15 so I am only in it $47.50, dont care to sell it cause some day I may use it but if I can save ya a few bucks and have a few bucks for x-mas then I will. :)
