I just bought a black on black 2002 LS8 and the factory chrome wheels have some issues. The chrome is flakeing off and they seem to be cracked around the lugnut area? The guy said something abouot a recall on the but ford told him it was on the 00 and 01's? Should I be worried to drive it?

Also anyone have any wheels for sale or could help me with what offset I have to find foor new ones? Thanks, Jason

bolt pattern 5x108. Offset 40+mm (stock wheels are 17x7.5 with a 60mm offset IIRC) will fit. I'd check your local craigslist. Sometimes there are punk kids who throw on 22's, and sell their stockers for dirt cheap.

You are worried about driving on them whent he chrome is flaking? Or do you mean the wheels look like they are actually cracked around the lug nut area? I would have them checked out if it's the latter. I would never knowingly drive on a cracked wheel.

^ Spammer. I'll buy them in a month if you take some close up pics.

I will get some pics this weekend for everyone. I'm swamped right now with work for my classes

Well I can tell the chrome is flaking, but it sorda looks like the wheel is cracked also? Hard to really tell. I put a deposit on the car and have to go pick it up this weekend and I'm not sure if I should drive it home or not.

There was a recall on 2003 factory wheels that weren't heat treated properly or something so they aren't as strong as those that were. These wheels would sometimes crack around the lugnuts. I haven't heard of this being a problem with the 02's although I could be wrong. I'm assuming you're not buying this car from a dealer? If you were, they should be able to look up the recall and have to check the wheels. The only way to really tell is take off a wheel and see if the 'cracks' go all the way through to the back of the wheel. I would bet it's probably just chrome chipping and peeling. I have 03 chrome wheels and they look like hell from all the chrome peeling off.

Here's the recall for 03 link

Edit - I agree with M4rk below - The stock 17" 8 spoke chrome rim and even the 5 spoke are pretty rims and look pretty darn good in my opinion.

I love the look, and most aftermarket rims that i like are either too expensive, or on another continent, so yes.

So true. I have found it pretty depressing looking for wheels. There just isn't much out there for our bolt pattern. All I keep finding is the same 10-15 wheels and the big bling types.

I have a set of 16"X 7.5 that I took off of my '02 before I traded her off. I'll let them go for $500.00 plus shipping.

If you are interested PM me & I will send you a picture.

lol. 500 for used 16" wheels?

Just to put it in perspective, the 5 spoke gen 1 17's normally go for about 200-300 a set.

Just saw in another thread here that a guy just picked up a set of pristine 17" five spoke stockers on cl for $75.

Sorry if I wasn't clear guys, their not the stock wheels. I paid over $800 for them and only had them on the car for a few months.

I added a picture of the car with the wheels on it to my photo gallery.
