i know i read a couple threads on this but can someone refresh my memory, i cant find the original thread. thanks

im doing some work under the hood, and i see that i have this hair line crack where a small amount of oil can leak..i dont know how much of a difference it can have, but im going to get some rtv sealant tomorrow and seal it up better. i see that most of us all have the same yellowish glue to seal that piece, but for me it was very brittle and a little came off.

my question is, how much of an affect can this little leak have? not alot of oil comes out, but its not a complete seal and i feel it should be. the inside of the valve cover it connects to is like a copper chore boy, like a filter. just trying to learn what this is all about, thanks

pcv.... you can take that hose off and the motor will run fine. the oil is because your valve train is right under there.

thanks sully, i get it now.. (from wikipedia) - The PCV valve is only one part of the PCV system, which is essentially a variable and calibrated air leak, whereby the engine returns its crankcase combustion gases. Instead of the gases being vented to the atmosphere, gases are fed back into the intake manifold, to re-enter the combustion chamber as part of a fresh charge of air and fuel.

im still going to fix the seal because i chipped some of it off today and i just want it to be oil leak free;)

we dont have a PCV valve.... we have a PCV system in which the hose diameter is on purpose jot just something to fit the valve. Over engineered jag motor trait

I just did my VCG and fixed that as well when I had the valve covers off. I used black rtv and it is holding up great.

Mine is in a different location (Gen 2) but a piece of the plastic chipped off the thing, not the hose, but where the hose connects, it still makes a well enough connection I assume, since it leaks no oil.

that piece sucks to take off as is, with silicone on it, it must really suck! Cut the plastic clip thing and put a small hose clamp on if you are really worried about it. Just remember that any oil on that part, would have other wise been in your intake.
