I bought an 01 LSV8 yesterday with a blown motor. I've found a junk yard local that has an 03 engine. I can't find any information if it would be a direct swap from a 1st gen to 2nd gen engine. The intake manifold is different since the gen 1 has the throttle body near the fire wall. So that leads me to the engine harness being different.

Can someone shine some light on this subject that's well educated on these cars.

They are not swappable. The intake is different the cooling system is different and gen two has VCT sensors.

I don't know these engines as well as I do Chevy engines, but these are both AJ engines, correct? Would it not be possible for the necessary Gen 1 parts to be swapped to the Gen 2 engine?

The way I see it I can buy the gen 2 engine and swap the intakes. CPU doesn't check for vtc in gen 1's so it shouldn't affect anything.... I would think.

Looks like the intakes could be swapped out to resolve the issue. Unless the water jackets are different on the block you could mount the old system to the gen 2 aswell.

Maybe but I figured the op wanted to swap a gen 2 engine without gen 1 stuff.

I think the short blocks are the same.

What are VCT sensors ?

I just want to swap in a low mileage engine to get it on the road. I bought it to have a decent DD. I want the gen two for the metal chain guides. The motor in the car now was destroyed by the plastic guides.

You can get a gen I engine and swap the guides to metal. And I think the 2002 engines were updated with metal guides as well.

All the junk yards around here want less for the gen 2. Gen 1's here are 1200-1500 (110-150k) with gen 2's for 700-1050 with 70-90k miles.

Unless you swap ALL the sensors and somehow disable the VVT it won't work. Even then, the Gen1 uses OBD protocol and the Gen2 uses CAN/BUS. You might be able to use the bottom end.......

Joe......

Don't forget the throttle by wire... Anyway, he probably could use the block and swap the heads, but that wouldn't do him any good since his heads are toast too.

You will spend much more than $1000 trying to get a GenII motor running in a GenI body.

Checking a GenI motor on an engine stand and replacing the timing chains would take less than an hour. Christopher's Foreign Parts on eBay sells updated tensioners and chain kits - just make sure to get the correct type of primary chain (roller or multi-link)

Just a crazy thought, but some guys try going all out and doing an LS1 engine swap. If you have the time, and the cash, could always do that, instead of running the 3.9

As long as you don't mind most of the stuff not working. (No Advancetrac, no auto AC, no dash cluster, ...)

Trying to put as little as possible into this car. I bought the car cheap so I could swap the engine and flip for a profit. I'm not even a Ford fan lol.

Probably not the best car to pick for this, especially if you don't have specific knowledge of the LS.

This car can't be flipped for cheap unless you find a complete parts car to pull stuff from. It was a $40K luxury car when new and the parts/maintenece reflects that.

Why can't it be flipped for cheap? Got the car for 1000 delivered from 2 hours away. Has almost new tires. Found an engine for 800 with 90k miles. Car needed one low beam head light bulb (10 dollars) and a drivers side interior door handle that I bought from a junk yard for 10 dollars.

It's a first Gen. You don't get much for these. Had it been an 05 or an 06 with 90K miles, easy $$$6 Grand.

First Gen, with 90K miles, your lucky to see over 4 Grand. Factor in the united states is in the worst economical down turn its ever scene, and your installing a 3.9 V8 Gas machine in a Body that is 13 years old...

check out http://toronto.kijiji.ca/f-2000-lin...eywordZ2000Q20lincolnQ20lsQQisSearchFormZtrue

We got plenty, all these listing at 3300, 3600, and they will be there for a very.. very ... long time.

So your at what.. $1800 for body and motor? Then labour? Additional parts needed (once you get it running you might find out you need sensors and other computer related crap) Possibly breaks.. I mean, the safety will tell.

You could still make a profit, maybe a grand? Just not sure what someone in the states is willing to pay for a 13 yr old Lincoln. Here in Toronto, they sure as hell wont give you much.

The LS is a Money Pit, Black Hole! Bought wife's 2000 new, spent $5000 last 24 months doing normal replacement of failed parts. Base V6. V8s cost more to maintain. Gen2s a little cheaper to fix. Did most of work myself. 88k miles. My 1998 Volvo, C70 Coupe 2.3 HPT, Auto, 43k miles has cost me $1,200 in 14 yrs. Normal time worn maintenance. The only way to "Flip" an LS is over a cliff!

What's the mileage of your LS? All modern cars are getting expensive to fix. The Ls key and fob can be had on eBay for $30. New Toyota an Honda charge $300 for their key fob. Get that volvo up to 100K miles and watch it fall apart.

Actually my wife had a 1999 volvo s70 before her Lincoln LS. It had almost 300 000kms on it when we sold it. They are very reliable cars. If you do some searching the S/v/c 70 series are the cheapest european cars to maintain. I spent some money on her LS when we bought it but I bought it cheap because it needed the wheel bearing, clock spring and solenoid pack replaced. Her Ls had 130 000kms on it when we bought it, it had been sitting for two or three years so it took some work to get it runnning properly.
