Proper tools for rear brake pad change?

And if any of you say anything about air tools or an impact, I will personally come to your house and beat your face in with a torque wrench. I only have hand tools but can't seem to figure out how to get at the bottom drivers side caliper bolt to get adequate leverage on it.

Not to mention the top bolt took a wrench and a hammer, the last :q:q:q:q:q:q:q thread sealered the hell out of it!
 
Alright, it looks as if the manual says to remove the slide-pin bolts and remove that part of the caliper assembly first and then remove the two caliper bolts, is this right???
 
Go to auto zone or where ever and rent or buy a brake tool for disc brakes, to compress the rear calipers they need to turned in and not pressed in
 
Well I know I need the compression tool. It made it a lot easier when I removed the slide pin bolts! Guess I should have consulted the manual first!
 
Actually, the real problem was that I didn't turn on the music while working the first time. Fire up a little Metallica and some Ozzy and things will be a breeze now!
 
ya def take the caliper completely off, then the pads, then the bracket. much easier that way.
 
all you do is push and turn at the same time.

i used the cube, worked perfectly fine, but you do have to get c clamp to get it to work...........
 
the cube works fine wtf? maybe if you didnt live in ice, snow, sleet and saltville you could use it too. you dont need a c-clamp with the cube, all i do is remove the rear caliper and bracket, then take the rotor off, and temporarily mount the bracket and caliper back on, so i can put the cube in place and twist and push with my body weight, works everytime, florida rust free marks FTW.

i bought me a kit at napa works great...its a kit for all kind of brake pad applications it ran me about $80.00.....best money spent in my book.
 
i only need a special tool for these dam cars so i spent 4 dollars and bought the do it good enuff tool!

I went and bought that tool at harbor freight, cause I couldn't fine my old one! I had to modify it slightly so it would seat better. It did take quite a bit of force to get mine to go back in but they are kinda rusty!

Autozone wanted 12 bucks for the cube!

I tried that but couldn't get the leverage on it, I had to position it so I could put down force on it!
 
mine is El' Cheapo also, i had to modifiy 2 of the pins too, but only because the ones that were made to fit the varga calipers snapped off and slammed me in my face, because i tried my cube on my half inch impact gun lmfffffffffffffffffao i know shut the F up it was a dumb moment, and it hurt like a bitch too. so i had to modifiy the next closest two pins, but now it works awesome, ON A HAND RATCHET, not the impact gun, i learned the hard way!!!
 
I have the same one, but I believe its a name brand, not harbor freight, but anyway, It paid for itself the first time I used it. Works like butta.
i got the MAC kit, and then i got the reverse threaded one for the right rear calipers on the 500/freestyle

Or consulted common sense... lol jk. Make sure when you put the pads back in the little alignment pegs on the pad go into the caliper and the alignment recesses in the caliper are straight up and down otherwise your pads will be crooked and wear unevenly. And I've actually been able to turn some calipers in by hand with a pair of channel locks.
