So I got a huge promotion Friday at work I start my new position running billing/accounting/collections for the company I work for, Rollin if you see this I will be in contact with you soon for our arrangement. I am rather excited and hopefully now be able to save up money to move out and get started on the projects you may or may not know of.

Anyways I am excited and thought I would share

Congrats on the promo.

I am unemployed at the moment and things aren't so hott. Never take a job for granted - unless you are treated poorly etc.

Congrats. I had a small one earlier this year and am trying to love up once more next year.

Working on crossing into law enforcement. Waiting for air marshal to open up again.

Sorry about the bad luck drizzle check any airports near you they usually have tons of jobs available.

me also man.. i just took a job at home depot to make ends meet... its not easy finding a good paying job these days..

i may get back into a good position next spring. the job im going for wont be open until then..

good luck getting something

Congrats!!! That's great news for you and for us I'm sure.

Drizz, sorry to hear. Its the same story for many of my friends who are fresh out of college, its not going well with job placement. Something is better than nothing. You could always start wrapping cars in your area to make some extra money, you can use your car as promotion

Tmoney, good luck on your end too.

Haha, that would be fun if I had a garage/shop. I used to build speaker boxes for friends out of my garage, but the hassle of not having enough space for wood storage and tools etc was too much. But if I had the space available I would be wrapping/building/plasti dipping all the time. I love DIY projects as a hobby of mine.

As for the employment, your friends are in the same boat as me. Recent graduate with a degree and nobody hiring. It feels rather deflating that I have been in school for my entire life and I have not been able to find someone who wants me to work for them.

However, I know things don't fall into place overnight for everyone and there are definitely people who have been out of work far longer than I. (I am on month 4)

Thanks everyone

Drizz you will find something, my schooling is for engineering but i am finding that to be a hard field to get into, everyone wants experience and no one can get it until they get a job, but again they demand experience... its a terrible cycle. I know a lot of people who don't work in the field they went school for

Congrats on the promotion. Looking forward to seeing your projects continue to move along.

Thanks everyone

I work with many people who have degrees in criminal justice or business administration and my salary is the same as theirs or higher.

A degree can be used as a substitute in place of experience for a lot of government jobs...and with GS jobs you can make bank and benefits starts from day one. Medical, dental, vision, life insurance and 401k/tsp.

You may start higher in private sector, but its harder to get terminated from a government job (usually). People say theres no jobs out there and that isnt true. Theres jobs you just need to be willing to work outside of your field of study.

this is 100% true, I started in the company where I am at now in the call center, i hated it but a little hard work and doing extra got me promoted to sales then customer service then billing / accounting where I am now. I did not want to work in a call center, but i needed a job and worked my ass off. People are to high on their pride, that is why they are unemployed. There are thousands of companies hiring, you just have to get up and go work somewhere

Yup; unless you're an ATC!! I got my termination letter in July for my upcoming termination. Apparently I've reached the magic age where I have lost my skills..... NOT!! This is a good time to go though as the majority of the pilots seem to have never had any skills!

At least I have excellent retirement (CSRS, no FERS for me!) and I'll also get unemployment!

CONGRATS!!

Yup. My son got what we call his "paper or plastic" degree. He works using his philosophy degree at the order desk for West Marine.

Congrats buddy. Keep up the good work.

I consider myself one of the lucky ones. When I graduated last year I had multiple job offers in the field I went to school for. While many kids don't end up in the field you studied, I feel like there are so many bogus types of degrees that college faculty don't give students the reality of how hard it will be to find a job once they finish.

Kids need to be better informed. Just because you have a degree in something doesn't paint the full picture of reality in the world. Especially in an economic climate like today's. Get a good competitive degree in a good area of study. Profit. It's pretty simple.

Thanks everyone

There are plenty of engineering positions available down this way. I could get you in the door here just about anytime. Congrats on the promotion!

Thanks everyone,

good things come to those who wait..... BULL****

Good things come to those who work their asses off and never give up..

Luck is just preparation meeting opportunity, and I have prepared my self for anything I can so when the opportunity presents itself I can seize it.

Congrats and keep up. You get out what you put into it, very simple formula.

What you say is very true, although it's not even about the pride any more. Government promoting pikers has been screwing up the society bad.
