I live in Canada and its :q:q:q:qing freezing up here lately. I'm only pointing this out because it may help with the diagnosis.
I took my car through the car wash two days ago, and when I went to start it up afterwards it would turn over but it would just spin. I couldn't get it to fire. I gave up after a while and pushed it out of the carwash into the bitter cold where I tried to start it again. No luck, same thing, just spinning. I thought it might be a wet spark plug so i popped the hood and there was no water in the engine bay that looked to be doing any damage.
I tried starting it again and after a couple cranks I got it going but it died 3 or 4 seconds after. Tried it again, same thing.
Pushed the car into a parking space and tried some more. Now it was just making that god awful clicking sound, wouldn't even turn over.
Called a buddy, he gave me a boost, wouldn't start, just kept spinning.
I left it there overnight and brought my dads Escalade to give it a boost. Same thing once again, just spinning. So we called a towtruck to take it to the shop, but got him to try boosting me first.
His extra power battery got me started first try and I drove it to my uncles shop. The battery checks out fine and so does my alternator. I then restarted the car (with no issues) and drove it home to my garage.
Got up for work this morning and it started beautifully again. Drove downtown and parked in a spot. When I got back to the car it wouldn't start again, just kept turning over.
I contemplated kicking all the windows in.

Left the car in the parking spot for a half hour as I finished some more errands and I came back and this time it fired up first go.

I am so confused as to what is going on. If anyone took the time to even read this topic and you think you have any sort of suggestion, please, feel free to let your opinion known!

its a 97, but fire away!
i'm open to any theories!
i just got it back from the autobody shop on monday and i haven't had any issue with starting the car... but i'm scared it might do it again.

did it again....
any ideas vancando?
i'm thinking maybe its a computer problem?
i'm taking it to a local mechanic in the next couple days but i was hoping i'd have some news to tell him.

alright, thought i'd do a little update in case anyone reads this and is having similar problems.
i took it into a mechanic friend and he gave it a good look over. he ended up finding a few relays (they can be found under the black panel behind the fuse box in the front end drivers side) that had been burnt and melted together. he replaced those and found a bunch of burnt wires in the front end as well. he also found burnt wires in the drivers side under the floor and behind the backseat (had to take the back seats out).
fixing those wires took care of a few problems i had been having (windshield wipers, 2 of the 4 cigarette lighters that weren't working.)
he also found that the relay wire on top of the gas tank (smaller of the two wires) had some damage to it. he replaced that wire and the car started.

i drove it for a day with no problems, took it to my jobsite this morning and when i got off work it wouldn't start again..... ARGH!
my mechanic is hoping its just a couple wires that he missed while fixing a bundle the other night. i'll keep my fingers crossed.

i'll keep you all posted.

found another burnt cluster of wires and got those fixed.
car has been starting fine ever since.
