Hi all, it is the 2 year cycle agian where I go buy some more tires (wear bars are showing on these :) ).

I have already got my order in for another set of Kumho Ecsta KH11 235/50R17 96V from vulcantires. I'm replacing the shocks as well (kudos to LSK in advance of my order arriving).

But what I would like to know is what tire preferences the others on the forum prefer? I know it likely varies by area of the world, but just note if you buy a particular brand/model for winter summer or same all year, etc and what that particular type is and any opinion you have of them.

Example:

Year round (since I am so far south): Kumho Ecsta KH11 235/50R17 96V

They are very quiet and I have yet to feel unsafe with them at high speed on turns in wet or dry conditions as they grip as fast as I am willing to go.

I guess the first issue is to address what YOU are looking for in tire performance. What type of driving do you do? Are you looking for a quiet, smooth ride, or do you want more performance?

I use Michelin Pilot Sport A/S for 3 seasons and Michelin Pilot Alpin PA2 during winter. The PS A/S are just great - superior in every way to the Pilot MXM4's that were stock on the car. Wet traction is almost unbelievably good. The "A/S" means "all season" but they are a performance tire, and although they will do much better in snow than a typical performance tire, they really are just 3-season tires (unless a snowless winter is normal where you live). If you are looking for a high performance tire that won't let you down in wet or cold conditions, then this is a great choice. But for traction in extreme cold, or in icy conditions, you need a winter tire, which is why I bought the PA2s. The PA2 is a good performance-style (aka European) winter tire. It is not too aggressive, which means good treadlife and quiet highway operation (quieter in fact than the PS A/S tires). This is my first winter on them and I am very happy so far. I use 215/55R17 which are V rated so they handle great, plus they are a near-perfect size (diameter) match to the 235/50R17 stock size.

toyo proxes t1r. i've pretty much pushed them to the limit. high speeds around turns and 135 on ashpalt. even though they are all season i wouldn't suggest them for a cold climate because when the tire sits overnight more than 6 hours they tend to have a slight flat spot. for the first about 5 miles there is a minor vibration. recently i bumped up the pressure so the flat spot wouldn't be as big of an area. by the way these tires eliminate all road noise. i've got about 1500 miles on these tires too.

The past few times my car has been at the Lincoln dealer they have been pushing me to get new tires. I still have the stock Michelin Pilots on the car with 47k miles. They quoted me $1051 to replace with the same Michelins. I wanted to ask him if that price included a little asian chick to come give me a handjob while i waited. Gotta be kidding me. On my '02 LS i went with a Yoko Avid V4s. They were great tires but they dont make a size to fit the stock 17" rim. But i too will be in the market for new tires within the next month or so.

What has been the tallest/biggest tire anyone has put on? I dont want to lower it but the stock 235/50 tire leaves too much space in the wheel well. On the old 16" rims i went alittle bigger and it looked alot better.

Just whatever you have spent your money on and prefer. Justification is up to you.

Amazingly you were able to be vulgar, explain that your dealership wanted to much money, complain about wheel well fitment, and answer the question all at the same time.

Hey thanks buddy.

OK, well for me, I prefer a smooth, comfortable, quiet ride. To replace the stock tires on my 2003 car, I went with Bridgestone Turanza LS tires. Excellent for my priorities. Best of luck on your choice!

I agree, have had the Bridgestone Turanza LSZ'S for about 15,000 miles.

Great tire in all weather conditions, 9's across the board on TireRack

Only thing is takes alot of tire shine to soak in to them

Other than that,, great looking and performance.

I have a set of Nitto 555's comming which will be used only in summer so i'll see how they work out. Before that the car came with Michelin hydroedge's and they seemed to be really nice.

I have Bridgestone Potenza S-03 Pole Positions on my Mustang and I absolutely love them for a summer only tire.

I have had Cooper Zeon Sport AS on my LS for about 2 months and no complaints at all. They ride smooth and quiet, grip well, even when we had 3" of snow on the ground. Not as good as the Mickey Thompsons on my Mountaineer, but I let the wife take that to work when the white poop flies.

I only buy one set year round, right now I'm not sure what I have on there but I've been looking for good deals on some Potenza's. Buddy of mine has them on his GTO and he said they're real sticky but a little less cushy than some other types.

Pirelli forever. Been running them on sports cars, sedans, sport sedans and trucks. Awesome tires, build quality beyond all others and durability that the WRC (World Rally Championship) can attest to. They are not known for the highest treadwear but that's a sign of a tire that only does one thing well, sacrificing performance, grip and often will prematurely squeel when even mildly pushed.

Pirelli P zero Rosso 255/40-18. Loving every minute on them.

NEVER go cheap on tires or lighting......
