Is there anyplace online that sells precut tint for gen1 taillights? I know that it will more than likely come out like crap if I just buy a sheet and cut it myself to fit, especially with the badging they put on the lights.

Also, for those of you that have the smoked or clear side markers, how easy/difficult were they to install? Because it seems like a simple pop-out / pop-in job, but I want to be sure before I buy them and either break the new lenses or something on the car itself

I don't think there is a pre-cut for the taillights.

And the marker housing just pop right out from the bumper. You can either go with the pre assembled ones form e-bay that some guys here did or get the lens itself from lskoncepts.com. If you get the LSK.com ones you need to cut the factory lens off of the housing and glue the new one on. For the turn signals the headlight needs to be opened and then they also just pop out.

Also, even a pre-cut if it did exist would cover the badge letters and what not.

Its pretty easy to work with this stuff just look around. Some of the sites have how to videos to help you out. It looks very easy!!

Thanks but I tried both of those places, neither has what I'm looking for.

nyc, do you think maybe someplace on the island might sell something like this? and if its the case that its one of the shops that will install it too, then i obviously dont mind if its a full sheet or precut

If you are tinting, I honestly don't think it will look good on a gen 1s contoured taillight design. You might be better off going the route of jonstintedtails.com.

i was going to say something along those lines. go to someone that does body work, they usually know someone that can do it or they do it themselves. i've asked at 3 different places and none went over 100 bucks

That is because it does not exist.

I agree with pektel, you would be best to just have johns tinted tails do it and honestly,... I would e-mail him cause he lives in the area of N.NJ so maybe you guys could work something out by meeting personally.

I agree with petkel with just bringing it to a body shop unless you think you can paint them yourself. If so just go buy a can of VHT niteshades ($9.99) and a can of clear coat ($4.99) and you can do them from start to finish in about three hours and thats including taking them off the car and putting them back on. I did mine myself because my car is my daily driver so I couldn't afford the down time by sending them off to someone to do them.

tints

There is a guy near me in Perth Amboy that tints the tail lights. But I have never seen a Ls done.

I was talking to Tony7781 (member on here from SI) today, and he had his tails, reverse lights and foglights tinted by John's Tinted Tails. Apparently he's out here on SI. Do a Google search and you should find some info on it. If not, send a PM to Tony and he can tell you. Hope that helps.

+1 on the VHT, very easy and very fast. no matter how you go about tinting them you will have to take off and reapply the badges (if you want them back on)

VHT Ive used it on a prepped surface and it did not "lay" well and it fadded really fast even with a coat of clear on top. I looked dull not that glossy.

I used the VHT crap before and yes it don't lay right. When it does lay right you end up with a few coats and it makes for a pretty dark look. Some people think that you can lay one or two coats down and get a smoked look but you cant and the directions even state that you need at least three coats for it to lay properly and three coats make for a dark look. You also need to shake the can forever or it comes out in drops cause all it really is is a thin clear coat with some black paint to it. I used Testors and other brands on many things from models to RC cars and more and it all was crap. In the end on one of the projects I said the hell with it and I let it go on dark but even on a RC car not exposed to much out side light ( not as much as a car anyway ) it still faded and had that same dull look as the taillights above no matter what I did in the end.

I say just have Johnstintedtails do it or go ahead and give the film a shot. It really can not be that hard. The contour to the lights might be a bit tough to get around but I think with a good attitude about it and a day to enjoy it it would turn out.

That sucks that some of you have had problems with the VHT but I found it rather easy to use and it never spotted or dulled out on me. I have done a bunch of taillights locally around here and no one has had any problems with fading, cracking, or even nobody has been messed with by the police. Just make sure everything is prepped correctly and you should have no problems with anything. Good Luck
