Is it possible for the power steering pump to need some adjusting? Or tightening?

A few weeks ago I thought my PS pump was gone. It was making horrible noises when turning the steering wheel either way.
Then, right before I had It replaced, it mysteriously went away.
Now, a couple of weeks later, it came back. But this time I figured out that it started when I was backing out of a parking space and I had to turn the wheel ALL the way to the right.... til she could go no more. It started making the noises again. So I put her in park, turned the wheel ALL the way to the right again... and behold.. problem fixed.

So now I know how to fix it... but I don't know how temporary this is.
Is this the signs of a pump going bad?
Or a pump that needs adjusting or tightening?

Have you ever changed the fluid? It does go bad over time and you will get some of the symptoms you are seeing.

Could be your rack and pinion seals going bad. Do you have any leaks? Maybe your fluid is also polluted with debris from your previous pump. Thats something to think about :)

No leaks... thats the strange part. The fluid is full.
The pump has never been replaced. I think i might have had the power steering fluid replaced at the dealer once...probably like 50,000 miles ago.

Could bad fluid really cause this? If so, I'll replace it.

Do a flush and add the friction modifier from Ford's TSB that was on my 2004.
