Poor Gas Mileage, '03 LS V8, 13.7mpg??

here lately since the spike in gas prices, ive noticed my gas mileage has dropped significantly.. either my tin foil hat is alerting me, or its just a coincidence and time to replace something..


- i had a spark plug and ignition check/servicing two years ago
- ive just replaced the air filter (just a stock oem brand)
- i gotta check my tire pressure, thats on the to-do list, now that winter is over.
- ive already ran an obd2 error check with my android phone(torque), and there are no errors, unless im doing something wrong.
- the car has just reached 80k miles.
- my transmission has been slipping and reving high, not changing gears properly, so im assuming this could be a major factor but i cant afford that fix right now, (probably tranny solenoid, or needs reprogramming)
- im steady with buying 93 from exxon

is there anything else i should query about next time i goto the dealership?
i wanna sound like i know something so they wont screw me over on bs.

Not only could this be causing all or most of the extra gasoline consumption, it is also doing internal damage to the transmission. If you wait too long (could already be too long), you will need far more than a new solenoid valve assembly.

slipping = heat and increased wear= dead transmission.
be careful with that.

Well the tranny slipping and I am guessing you are experiencing longer than normal shift patterns, is probably the root of the excess consumption issue.

But for the engine, I am a tickler when it comes to using Sea Foam in my tank every 3-5000 miles or so at a fill up. I have always found a bottle of Sea Foam every 3-5k miles is great at keeping the combustion chambers and injectors clean and healthy. It in my eyes is a great investment at only $8.00 a bottle. Also you can pull your O2 sensors out and take a wire brush to them and engine cleaner to get a better reading and extended use out of them. You can also run Sea Foam thru the vac line at intake manifold or the brake booster vac line to clean the manifold.

But what others are saying about letting that tranny go to only get worse to the point it may stand you and eat up more savings out of pocket is going to cost you more in the end instead of now.

I just had my transmission repaired because it was slipping and then slamming into the next gear. My gas milage has gone from 14mpg to 24mpg with the air running. I never knew how bad it was. And with Premium now at $4.00 a gallon... that makes me smile.

Thank God I had an extended warranty. FORD's total was close to $2K. I paid $75.00. Awesome!
