For a couple weeks my car has been running crappy. At first it started running shakey and threw a code for a bad fuel pressure regulator, I took it in to get it fixed. It ran normal for a couple days till it started driving weird again, this time the codes would come and go before I would have to time to get a read on it. Now on the way home from work the car started acting up and the CEL light started flashing, as soon as I was able to slow down the car, the CEL flashing stopped.

Now I did a search and the threads said that something is happening that is damaging the cats. Does this mean the coils are going bad? If so, around how much would it cost to get them all fixed?

My car is 03 with 113K on the clock, so I'm pretty sure I'm not going to be covered by any extended warranty.

You are misfiring. If you don't have an obd2 reader take it into the auto zone and have the codes pulled for free. Look them up online and it will tell you exactly which coil the misfire is coming from. If you have don't the valve cover seals I suggest doing them now and going with 8 new coils, which will vary on price depending on which ones you go with.

Thanks for the reply, right now the car is not throwing any codes, but it still running a bit rough. Can you give me a rough estimate on how much per coil I'm looking at?

I changed a misfiring spark plug on my Firebird, I dunno if that's the same thing.

V8 or V6? Pull your coils and see if there is oil on any of them. I'm betting money you will find some. Price depends on if you want to go with ebay coils or if you go oem. Personally, I retrofitted a set of Accel Mustang coils to work on my car. They work great but you can't use the stock cop cover with them.

Ford also recommends changing the plugs at 100,000 miles.
The plugs are easy to change once you have the coils out.

My 04 has 97k on it and was misfiring under load.
I changed out the plugs and coils from a spare new engine I have and
now it's good as new.
